Steering problems on 2009 Camry SE??

Like the title states, I am thinking I am having steering problems with what I consider Over Steer when I try to either change lanes on a highway, or turn left or right onto a street like uneven pavement. It seems like the car wants to track one way and the tires want to track in the opposite direction. I traded in the sorry Toyo Proxie Tires for a fresh new set of Michelin tires and still have the problem, but not as bad. Anybody having these problems or similat to what I am stating with my new 2009 Camry SE?? Any and all replies would be appreciated with those who have had a similar experience. Thanks.

You are allowed one wheel alignment at the dealer within 12,000 miles under warranty!

Many new cars have the alignment off from transport or striaght from the assembly line.

It could possibly be the geometry of your vehicle. Remember, these are FWD cars... torque steer is a factor with FWD cars. You may wish to stiffen your suspension with beefier anti-sway bars, shock tower strut brace, lowering springs etc. Do you have an I4 or a V6? Better tires should also help. Everything combined should make your day, IMHO.

If it were the geometry of these Camry SE's then they all would be like this. I am strongly thinking there is something loose or something in the steering, causing the tires to not track properly when changing lanes or turning a corner or uneven pavement. Will be taking in for the dealership to check it out. Like I already previously mentioned the tires hav been upgraded to Michelin S8's and the Camry SE has a L4 engine. Also, I am very well educated on FWD cars , as have owned 10 of them over the past 20 years. Thanks for your opinion, but all SE's have the same suspension, so I do not think it would need to be upgraded, as to why I purchased an SE, verses a LE or something else.

he found out today a front Drivers side wheel bearing has gone bad and dealer would order a replacement. At present time he is driving a Corolla 09 as a loaner.

Now that is simply amazing, a left front wheel bearing going out on a brand new 09 Camry with not even 5,000 miles on it. Mine will hit 5,000 miles by this weekend and I will take it into the dealership next Monday to get my Free Mobil 1 Oil change, plus they will check out the front steering on mine to determine what is going on with this lousy tire tracking on uneven pavement and while turning either left or right off one street onto another. Really strange.

should be alignment...

geometry of camry is not bad at all.. esp on the steering...

USDM made camrys are seldomly known for alignment problems out of the factory. A couple of them couldn't drive straight if their lives depended on it.

Check ur alignment first. Then go from there.

Car is going into the shop next week for it's first Oil Change and I will have them check out the front end, as well as the alignment. Thanks for your reply, anybody else having these tire tracking problems with their Michelins or other aftermarket tires?

The Gen 6 Camry does have a bit of bump steer. I noticed it right away. I was also having vibration issues so I think I was also nit picking a bit. I do have 20" wheels with 245mm wide tires though so uneven pavement grabs the car. My wifes 02 camry has much less bump steer though. I'm used to it now but it drove me crazy for a while.

I tried the 20" tires and wheels and it was not acceptable for the car was doing exactly what yours is doing now. Also, since going back to the factory tires and wheels it is still there, but I also changed from the Toyo Proxie tires to a set of Michelins and it seems to be a little bit better, but I still have the uneven pavement grab issue myself. Wonder what Toyota can do to remedy the problem?

I also have this problem on my 07 SE V6. I took it in for the steering TSB and new Yokohama tires. The problem seems less noticeable now but it is still there. Compared to my wife's old corolla the Camry tracks horrible. I have given up on trying to get it fixed and have just "learned to live with it" as a previous poster said. I do take partial blame for never test driving the car prior to delivery.

I love my 2007 Camry SE. I have had the car aligned twice due to serious tire wear. There is a TSB for right and left pulling which describes a lengthy process to fix the problem. Fortunately I have never experienced pulling, just uneven front tire wear. I now hear what sounds like a bad front left wheel bearing. The car was aligned two months ago and tires rotated last week but the sounds persists. I took it back to the alignment shop where they put it up on the rack and ran engine with the tranmission engaged to spin the tires/bearings. They used a screwdriver to listen to the left and right bearings and determined the left was in deed louder. I will take it to the dealer. I think the bearings are no longer waranteed. Hopefully they will have pity on me and fix for free if the bearing is bad.
