5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
How many people here changed their 2007 - 2009 Camry Transmission fluid already? If so, at what mileage? I read the manual already and read enough about this series uses some new World ATF, but after hitting 4 different dealership all of them say not to change it. I have approx 50k mileages on a 2007 XLE V6.
Actually 2 of them refuses to change them even if I said I really want to do it. Saying it is seal, no dip stick, forever no need to change

Ideally, the WS, World Standard fluid for the new generation of Toyota transmissions do not have to be changed; however, it is entirely up to the owner to decide.
There is indeed no dipstick for the 2007 trans, but there is a drain plug and a overflow plug on the pan, and a filler plug behind the left splash shield. The procedure for filling the trans is rather complicated, you need to monitor the trans fluid temperature to properly adjust the level.

I'm still going to change it out with Mobil 1 despite that Toyota's manual says no service necessary under normal conditions. I plan to do it when I hit about 30,000 miles.
I've had those Mobil 1 bottles since 2005, wonder if they have a shelf life.

My understanding is that, there is currently no other transmission fluid available that is comparable to the WS fluid, even though the WS fluid had been in service since 2004.

You've got a manual, so 30k mile change is not necessary - I'd say waste of time and $. If you are really anal, 60k before you change a manual tranny, at the least. I have always done mine at 80k, and sold them around 140-170k with no transmission problems.

I've had the fluid since 2005 so it's no extra expense. I have enough for 2 changes so I figure why the hell not if I have some free time. Since it's just drain and refill, I figure I can drain it when I drain the engine oil...whenever I hit 30000 miles.
My 07 currently has 16500 and this past April, it had about 14000. It's going to be a while. Actually, I should really reconsider my transportation options if I keep going like this.

N.E.O.
My car is spec'd for 75W-90 that meets GF-4, GL-4, or something like that. I can't think of standard right now. So basically any 75W-90 oil that meets that requirement should work.
I guess it is because I am not use to this new World Standard fluid and might be mental thing. I do notice some sluggish in my camry since I first bought it. Not to mention more road noise. I do change oil regularly at every 4k - 4.5k mileage. Change air filter every 15k. But I am using the K&N one now, so I need to clean it soon.
I wonder if the suspension need replacement ehehehhe....
Must be the new car mentally. It seem smoother and more comfortable
It has been posted here before... the U660E AT service mannual in section AX-164 provides instructions on how to check the fluid level, along with fill ammounts. With and without the scan tool. The WS fluid is pretty expensive.

I paid $4.66/quart and it took 3.5 quarts. I don't consider that expensive at all. I have a 2007 Camry with 4 cylinder and it has a ATF dipstick and drain plug on the bottom of the transmission. The sealed one I believe you are referring to is the 6 cylinder. I did a drain and refill at 20K because I am a renegade and because I don't believe in lifetime fluids...it is just a tactic to sell more cars when the transmissions fail earlier

So you have a 5 speed, the OP was talking about an Auto with WS fluid, so that is where the misunderstanding.
