reprogram ecu

my car will not stay on when i start it, anybody know why. i unplug the negative on the battery and then pluged it back in and people at advance autoparts said i need to reprogram the ecu or like the car needs to read the car or somethign anyone know how to fix it i have a 2002 toyota camry 3.0

Sounds like an idle control issue. Does it stay running if you hold the gas pedal down a little? Not much info to go by so anyones guess could be right.

yea i need to basically let it learn to ideal again. um if i want it to take on i have to hold to gas down. it wont ideal by itself any one know how to make it learn to ideal?

disconnect your neg battery terminal and leave it that way for a good 20 mins. When you connect it again, let it idle in gear. And it should relearn it within a few mins

just to add to this, while letting it idle in gear, it is possible for it to stall out. dont worry, just start it up again and let it idle in gear. If it continues to do so, your butterfly valve on the throttle body may be dirty. Clean it up with some carb cleaner.

Also, learn to do a search. As put by our resident jerk, this topic has been discussed quite a few times. Search is your friend.
