Just got back from Greece and wanted to say hi :)

Hey Toyota Nation

I just got back late last night after being on business travel in Athens, Greece and wanted to say. I have been there since 0800 last Friday and here are a couple of pics to show some of the highlight areas that I have been too.

I stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel in Athens and had an incredible view of the Acropolis from the window in my room....

From the base of the Acropolis....

The Acropolis looks amazing at night....

The Parthenon on top of the Acropolis....

Athens has a huge problem with stray dogs and cats. Must be nice to sleep all day long in front of the Parthenon....

The Erechtheum on top of the Acropolis....

The statues of the Korai (on the sourthern porch of the Erechtheum)....

The Odeion of Herodes Atticus (on the southern slope of the Acropolis)....

The Temple of Hephastus (looking down from on top of the Acropolis)....

The Temple of Hephastus is one of the city's best-preserved monuments....

The Temple of Olympian Zeus (looking down from on top of the Acropolis)....

The Temple of Olympian Zeus (with the Acropolis in the background)....

Hadrian's Arch (in front of the Temple of Olympian Zeus)....

My Great Grandfather came over to the US from Greece back in the 1930's. He was a Evzone which are members of the Royal Guard (then) and Presidential Guard (now). They are an elite ceremonial unit that now guard the Greek Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Hellenic Parliament and the Presidential Mansion. The unit is famous around the world for its unique traditional uniform, which has evolved from the clothes worn by the klephts who fought the Ottoman (Turkish) occupation of Greece....

Here is a short video of Evzones changing the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier....

I also took a couple of small trips outside of Athens to include Cape Sounion and a couple of the Greek islands (Hydra, Poros and Aegina).

The Temple of Poseiden (located at the highest point near Cape Sounion)....

Cape Sounion (looking down from the Temple of Poseiden)....

The island of Hydra was my favorite due to its beautiful landscape and clear green/blue waters surrounding it....

The island of Aegina is the most fertile of all of Greece and is famous for their pistachio trees/nuts. Here is a huge plantation of pistachio trees....

Pistachio tree and nuts up close....

Finally, if you ever go to Greece, make sure that you try Ouzo (an anise-flavored liqueur that is widely consumed in Greece)....

Thanks for sharing! Very beautiful scenery of the country, as well as the old architecture. It looks like the "odeion of herodes atticus" is still used in present day.

I'm pretty sure I'll be heading to Greece in the summer.

Buddy has a travel agent friend who can get us $700 round trip tickets

That water sure beats Galveston water...

Thank you for sharing the pictures! While I am Bulgarian, I've never ventured down south over the border into Greece yet. Seems like a good place - especially to visit all the heritage sites.

Thank you for these, planning to go next March to escape the inevitable snow, slush, cold, freezing rain when I'm fed up with it the most, something to look forward to.

Thanks everyone. It was definitely an awesome trip and would recommend visiting Greece to anyone. I am planning to go back in a couple of years and hopefully bring my wife so that we can enjoy it together.
