5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
About Tuesday or so, the Maint. required light on my 2005 Camry LX w/ 26066 miles began to turn on and off about 7 times just after starting the car. After flashing the 7 times, the light went off and stayed off. No biggie, I continued to drive it. On Wednesday, the battery (original) died. Friday, I replaced the battery, and did the idle learning process. The car runs and idles fine but now the the maint. required light stays on all the time now. I just took the car to a mechanic friend and he plugged in his reader and the reader displayed "There are no DTCs currently stored on the vehicle's computer".
So how do I store/reprogram DTCs on the computer and will that eliminate the maint. required light?
It is in your owner's manual, or do a search otherwise, what is his name will be all wound up about asking this again.
Anyway, the light is to remind you that it is time for an oil change. If I recall correctly, here is how to reset the light: Key off, push and hold the trip meter reset button, turn key on, the odometer will display "--------", when it display "000000", you have reset the reminder. Usually when it flashes and turns off, it is letting you know that the time is getting close for some maintenance work.
Firstly, not a slam, but I did do a search (battery and DTCs) and nothing specific to my situation came up. My post count is low because I do search.
Oil change? The Toyota dealer is doing the oil changes, if they don't know to do or how to do a reset, then maybe it's time to look for a new dealer! Regardless, I will try your suggestion and post back with the outcome.
Worked like a charm. I'm going to have to file a complaint with the dealer. I change the oil every 3k mile regardless and it's only been 2.1k since the last time. Way too early to be getting the "change your oil" reminder. Had me all worried and sh1t.

Thanks again.
Yes, 3K + 2K =5K and they did not reset the lamp. I asked them to reset mine first/last time and they didn't; when I showed the blinking light to the tech he said that is normal!! My last visit to this dealership.
lets add shit to the 100000000's of threads that have the SAME EXACT questions ans anwsers. Please, do a search
No kidding.
It's not an "oil change" reminder light anyways. It's a 5,000 mile maintenance reminder. Filing a complaint with the dealer for the maintenance reminder not being reset when you don't follow the maintenance guide makes about as much sense as starting this thread in the first place...

he's baackk...
I agree theres no need to file a complaint, but it should be the dealer's job to reset the maintenance light if they are changing your oil, since they are doing maintenance on your car. Maybe a kind word or two to remind them to reset the light after work is done is a better choice.

...or should they reset the light when the air filter is replaced?
...or should they reset the light when the cabin filter is replaced?
...or should they reset the light when the tires are rotated?
Again, it's a 5,000 mile maintenance reminder. Many other things come into play also.
If the OP doesn't follow the intervals, he should be able to reset the light as he wishes or instruct the dealer when he wants it reset. You can't expect the dealer to read the mind of someone doing their own thing. After all, the OP's "mechanic friend" should know more than him, and he doesn't know what he's doing either.

if the light is on during any one of those maintenance issues, yes they should. I would dare to assume that resetting that light while in service is part of a technicians checkpoints. If I am wrong, i am honestly sorry, but this is what I would believe to be true.
