5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Long story kind of short: My 09 Camry has a defective dash that was not finished correctly. My car has been a nightmare since it rolled off the truck. Here are the issues:
1. Paint was stained [fixed with heat gun]
2. Brakes failed at 134 miles [fixed with a new master cylinder]
3. Tach went dim [fixed with new cluster]
4. Roof drip peeled up [fixed by replacing the molding]
5. Dash coating began to peel [not yet fixed]
Toyota approved a new dash, gave me a 1 car payment, and a 7 year 100,000 mile platinum Toyota warranty (to compensate for these issues). They told me I would never win buyback arbitration as I do not want this car anymore.
So my car goes in for a new dash. The dealership took my car apart only to find the new dash was a shade of gray off. The Toyota parts system shows one color dash for the SE and as we know there are two colors, Ash and Dark Charcoal. My car is dark charcoal [LB15]. The dealer has ordered three dashes in dark charcoal and Toyota has shipped three times the ash dash [LB14].
As a result, my car is sitting with the interior taken apart since Thursday. No fault of the dealer as I also looked at the dash before they took my car into the shop. It is hard to tell the difference until you can compare it to the other interior components.
Does anybody know the part number for the LB15 dash?? This is a long shot, but the dealership has to wait for Toyota to respond and it is a holiday weekend for them.
I think even at the end of the day I may trade this car cause of my poor feelings towards it at this point. I buy a $33,000 Camry and this is what I get... Maybe I should have bought a cheaper one.

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. My Camry has already had a rough start when it was new. I've been to dealer over 30 times and the car seems to be on a good roll right now.

Ok, then this is a Toyota boxing issue. I have confirmed we ordered B0 three times. All three times they have put a B1 dash pad in a B0 box. The dealer has a call into the District Parts manager. I appreciate the help. Maybe the people boxing these parts are color blind. : \ All I know is I want my car back and to get that I need a B0 dash pad.
We thought this was a catalog issue, but this is a parts depot issue.

Sounds like the problem unless Toyota has changed all the part numbers recently...
We finally received two B0 [15 Dark Charcoal] dashes and they were damaged. Toyota told the dealer to put my car back together with the old dash until they could resolve the shipping damage issue. However, they then came back and said they would pay Dr. Vinyl to repair the damaged new dash.
Both are stupid moves, so the dealer took a dash out of a company car. It was a 08 SE w/ a FC 15 interior, which I was allowed to inspect (and approved of). They replaced the dash in the company car with a slightly damaged new dash.
They installed the dash flawlessly an the dash is mint, but it seems to be a little off on the color. The different in color is between the center dash clock unit and the plastic console pillars that meet the dash below the climate control. The dealer says it is because I have armor-all on the other trim and the new dash does not.
I confirmed that the car it came out of was Black with Dark Charcoal [FC 15] interior. My car is LB 15 and the fabric seats should not matter in-terms of dash color.
Any thoughts on the color difference? I have yet to wash the other trim parts with soap and water to see if removing the armor-all makes everything match again.

Considering your car is a 2009 and the "new" dash that came out of the company car is 2008, the slight color variation could be due to the 08 losing some color due to sun.
