Gen5 Leaking water pump?

Do I have a leaking water pump? My coolant level is at the "L" on the reservoir. I was looking through my pictures and I have a picture of the engine bay on 2/2006 which is when I purchased the car and my coolant reservoir is full. I've been searching and reading up and I see a couple of people have had problems with a leaky water pump and the 2AZ so I thought I'd ask for TN's opinion.

Today:

2/2006:

The first two pictures are from today, the last picture is from 2/2006. Should I refill it and see how it goes or take it in? I understand the water pump should be covered for 5K/60K miles under the powertrain warranty. The in-service date for my car is 1/05 and I have 30K miles on the dot as of today.

Thanks

Check for leakage/stains on the engine block under the water pump.

Your fluid levels should be checked a little more often than every 2 1/2 years.

im sure its probably leaking
all 2az water pumps leak at some point...its just inevitable....
look around where the water pump pulley is, and check for chalky pink stains, which are the telltale signs of a leaking waterpump

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll check it out myself and make an appointment with the dealer too. Better safe than sorry.

And njerald - duh, of course I check everything more often than that.

water pump leak is a relatively common issue for the camrys with the 2az-fe like already stated. it's actually one of the only mechanical defects of the gen5 camry, if you can even consider it a defect that is.

heck, it looks cleaner than the bottom pic, supposedly taken 2.5 years ago.

... unless you're comparing it to your engine bay. your engine bay is stupid dirty- turbo here, intercooler there, recirc bov there. i'll help you clean your engine bay with some tools if you want me to.

no kidding... i've had to replace my water pump twice already. once at 30k miles and again 3 months later.

to the OP, like everyone else has said, check for pink stains/residue... particularly underneath the water pump. also check for puddles of coolant wherever you park.

you may have a slow leak as well... not as noticeable but you will still see some residue build up:
this happened to me... the service advisor gave me crap about it not leaking after a pressure test even though there was clearly a large build up of coolant residue. he had the tech clean off the residue and told me to come back a few weeks later. few days later, i saw that it was still leaking (very slowly) so i went to the dealership again, and this time told them there was coolant on the garage floor. no pressure test that time!

Is there typically a labor charge to get the water pump checked out? I'm in touch with the service manager of where I am bringing my car in for an EFI service, and I just emailed him regarding my potentially leaky water pump. I asked them to check out my water pump when I bring my car in.

I requested a loaner car, which will most likely be an '09 Corolla. Their lot was filled with Corolla service loaners the last few times I've gone to pick up oil filters and most recently, my Type T-IV ATF.

Thanks again everyone. My appointment is for 11/7 so I'll find out in a few weeks what the verdict is! I'll check for signs of a leak when I get home. It must be a slow leak though because there's nothing on the pavement where I park my car everyday.

EDIT: Thanks for the compliments on my engine bay . I wipe it down once a month. Nobody but me will notice or care but I still like to keep it clean. I think I'll wipe it down again today, the last time I did it was when I changed my oil a month ago.
