5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
There are intakes available from K&N and Fujita, and exhaust systems from TRD and HKS (and others). However, just about everyone here will tell you that:
1. You won't see a noticeable difference in power, only sound/looks
2. Any minute gains will disappear when your ECU adjusts itself for economy (<500 miles)
There is a supercharger for the Aurion (Australian Camry), but there aren't any verifiable plans to bring it to the USA. There is also rumor that Cobb is working on getting rights to Toyota's ECU so they can make a turbo for it.

Thanks, whats the deal with the ECU changing? I thought that they learned the driver and it adjusted based on your driving habits, not for economy
The websites are not reliable. If you email Fujita they will give you the P/N for the intake.
What I've read is that when you first mod your car (intake, exhaust, etc.), you will feel a power increase, but over time it will fade away. This is because the ECU will adjust the fuel/air mixture, timing, and whatever else it needs to ensure the engine is running optimally within manufacturer's specs. You would probably need to modify the ECU to get around this.
The part I don't understand is why these mods will work for other modern engines (e.g. the Nissan/Infinity 3.5 V6s) and not ours. Nobody had an answer to that question.
according to HKS's website they have zero products specifically for the Gen 6 Camry
you want a custom HKS system check the For Sale section, Netforcer is selling his for 600 i believe, complete catback. he has pics and sound clips of it.

Thanks for the free ad, man... hahaha
But mine's an custom Aeroturbine system... buy it anyways!
I've been fighting with myself over one of these or a Nissan Altima and was wondering what all there was to give an advantage to the Camry because I like the looks of these better and like Toyota better overall but I'm a performance nut.
noprob, sorry. lol Peach has the HKS muffler for sale...i'm all confussed!
Well, yeah, but it's not an HKS exhaust system that's made specifically for the Gen6 Camrys, it's just a universal one that is custom fit as an axleback. There are very few out there, as mentioned above, it's mainly the TRD and Borla ones.
I fit Tanabe exhaust on my Gen6 and it wasn't made for the Gen6 Camrys, and you won't find any list for the Gen6 Camrys, I just took the two axlebacks from an IS350 and custom fit on my car.
You can always get aftermarket resonators or high flo cats to fit universally too.

Toyota enthusiasts aren't the only ones that has to go through this. Even the Honda guys have to bypass their ECU with the aftermarket Hondata to even see the real gains with the aftermarket parts. Infinitys and Nissans are performance vehicules, not everyday family sedan. They're sponsored by Steve Millen and Rod Millen Motorsports.

Yeah I feel you, except I was leaning towards the new Lancers (Evo/Ralliart).
The Toyotas performance (acceleration) and practicality (gas mileage) won me over though, plus I found a really cheap used 07 V6 that I couldn't pass up, buying new is just too expensive and the Ralliarts/Evos are still too new. Although I would have seriously considered the older Evos had I known they are now legal in Canada... Sigh. But I like the challange of taking a relatively unappreciated and now sporty family sedan and turning into a true sports sedan.
Well, let's all hope that Cobb--or anyone for that matter--gets the rights to Toyota's ECU. I'd love to get a few extra hp out of the Camry if it were possible. I just can't imagine wasting hundreds of dollars for performance upgrades that don't actually deliver anything than a little extra noise. -G
