Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Does anyone know if the cigarette lighter is different for the 09 Camry?
I just bought this set and the lighter doesn't click in. Instead it pops back out. It's brand new btw. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
We dont have lighters in our cars. We dont even have ash tray unless you buy the accessory that fits in cupholder. All plugs are DC.
So I'm afraid, you just wasted money.
WTF are you talking about? The cig lighters run on 12VDC and cars used to come with lighters in those sockets. Smoking has fallen in popularity so the lighter portion isn't included in recent years.
As far as the lighter not working, I'm not sure. Are you pushing it far in enough? Maybe you got a defective one. Have you tried it in a different car. Those things are universal.

The smokers kit is a option. I have not tried it on the 09s because only our fleet cars get the option sometimes. Also since I don't smoke anymore I never looked. Good to know I guess.

If you had just bought it, take it back and exchange for one that works properly. It is probably the spring clip in the socket, but if you mess with it then you 'bought' it, whether it works or not.

I know they run on 12VDC. Like I said, I dont smoke nor have I seen my cars have a cig lighter or even seen one in a long time that you push in to heat up the lighter. I remember seeing them in my 1981 Buick Regal, 1984 Buick LeSabre but I dont even remember seeing it in my 1995 Ford Taurus.
I thought the accessory that Toyota sell was just the ash tray and not including the lighter that is shown.

You may be correct, some of the newer Toyota vehicles has a power outlet socket only, which will not work with a lighter, since it has no retaining clip in there to hold the lighter element.

N.E.O.
You are right--there is no clip to hold it in. I tested the lighter on another car and it works fine. From looking at it and the socket, the centers don't appear to be able to make contact. Maybe that is why.
For the ashtray/coin holder it fits nicely with or without the separator, although it will slide up and down without it. Just a tip for anyone who want so get one.
I'm kind of curious, how would you even use that lighter? It seems like a pain in the butt to have to blindly stick that lighter piece all the way to the back of the storage box while driving. I'm pretty sure I can't even find mine when driving.
