5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Is there anybody out there that currently is running their Camry boosted? Id like to hear some personal experiences, and opinions on it. And maybe some pictures please? Thanks! I have a 07 camry CE.
LOL in the first place you should not have bought the underpowered version of the Camry (4 banger CE, LE, SE). You should have bought the V6 from the start and then you would never need to tinker with anything under the hood.
Now, once you waste all that money on turbocharging a 4-banger, your grand total bill would have come up to the same level as a V6 car or more.

True, but it makes you feel better inside when ppl turn their heads and say "was that a turbo camry?????"

Pfft...That's a lame reason. Maybe if if all you care is about how people perceive you.
I think I stopped caring since I didn't buy the car for speed. Well that and I don't want to sink any more into a money pit. Hence the reason I'm running OEM black rims.

I mean having a unique I4 turbo camry > v6 IMO.
It might be better to get a v6 in the long run, but i think i would rather have a i4 turbo camry over a v6 any day.

im just saying, some ppl like to make them fast and some like to buy them fast. I like making them fast. By the end of this year i will have a $20,000 budget to put in a project car and most of it will go to the engine and it will be a GSR engine from an Integra that will go in a '94 civic. cuz its gonna take me a long time to finish and when i drive it for the first time it's gonna be like i was reborn.
That 20 is money that i didnt waste at the bar or any other stupid BS, I have been saving it since i was 17 and now im 23 so it's not really that much when you think about it.
My camry has 20'' rims on it, a system and tv, gettin springs and trd exhaust and that's it. It is a family sadan after all.

A dealership or mechanic might not even touch your car. Once you modify the engine, it will never be the same.

Agreed. I think I'll use that $20k and put a down payment on a house that will put a roof over my head as well as my family and will have value. Or even put it in stocks and earn money (whenever that will be with this market).

+1 That because I4 turbo is faster than V6.
When Gene first started this project there are many members on this forum highly doubt that he can produce more hp than a V6. They kept on saying for the amount of money you put in it's still won't be as good as V6. Well, Gene proved them wrong. His I4 turbo spanks any V6 any given day.
Having said that, I'm still not gonna go turbo because I'm not a performance guy. I'm a type that All Show No Go. But I appreciated what Gene has done to his car and to show that an I4 turbo is BETTER and FASTER than V6.

So you graduated or still going to college...did you pay off your student loans? I guess all those saved up funds are from living at home. I'm 4 years older than you and live at home with my parents as well. I have half that right now cuz i put $18k towards paying off the car as well as $60k towards paying off my college loan. With the way the economy is these days, money is tight for everyone. You'll never know, you might get laid off tomorrow and just wasted that $20k on car mods.
I wish I had $20k to throw around but its not the right time to do so.
