5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have used the search but can't find the answer, if answered before just direct me with a link.
I got a Gen 5.5, CPO with 36KM, new to me. It has the 5 speed tranny and I am not sure of any updates done. Every morning on the first right turn that I make I have a thumping noise from the tranny. Just once and no more during the day until next morning. I want to know what it is and take care of it ASAP since I have the warranty.
It maybe is your ABS self check, if you want to verify that, just park it so you don't have to turn right and see if it still does it or not. I think it needs to see sensor speed input to finish the self test, but I cannot be 100% sure on this. This self test will occur every ignition cycle, no just once every day, if yours only happens once everyday, it may be your brake pads or suspension.

why dont you take some AV of your situation. It is pointless for all of us to keep guessing for you about what you have. That, or just take it to the dealer and let them tell you what it is.
Every new ignition cycle after take off there is a thumb noise towards the passenger side. My other car is not a Camry but has ABS. The sound is not loud enough for an audio, it will be missed with all the other noises. Does the ABS pump make a noise after each ignition cycle?

That is exactly what it does, every ignition cycle, it will run a self test to make sure everything is OK. It has to see the wheel speed sensors inputs before it completes the test. The ABS actuator is located at the right front of the vehicle by the coolant reservoir. If you really really want to confirm that, just disconnect the actuator, it will turn on the ABS light and VSC light if you have that, but the noise would no longer happen. When you are satisfy, just reconnect it, the lights should go out again, if not just clear the codes.
And other manufacturer has different setup and different ways of testing their system.
