5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just Fully Detailed my car today. Washed, Waxed and buffed. super waxed the Alloy wheels + tire blacks.. I also detailed the Engine Compartment, and the inside of the car.. Oil change was done too. planning to flush the tranny oil and radiator fluid (anti-freeze). Corrected my tire pressures to 37.5 PSI. regular summer days i put it on 35 but since its kinda going cool now i put it higher to save. my tank was 1/4 so i put STP cleaner + full tank..
so heres my query. what do ya'll do for maintenance when the temperature changes? (season change)
i plan on doing seafoam but im kinda afraid to fuck up the engine!..

I did the oil change + filter. The oil is synthetic and made for 15K miles before next change so I hope it'll last for the entire winter.
oh yeah i cleaned the filter too.. i have k&N drop in.. i used Mobile one fully synthetic.. i do my oil change every 5k.. i'll put royal purple next time...

I'm pretty sure you don't need to change the tranny fluid either. Antifreeze should last around 30k miles to say the least, but Toyota Super Long Life Coolant can go as high as 100k I believe.

Check your tire pressure, I am not familiar with low profile tires, but that seems like too much pressure, overinflating them only saves a bit of gas but might cause traction loss when you need it most and irregular tire wear.
^ max cold pressure on my tires (225/45/18) are 44 psi.
as far as the ATF, its not really necessary to flush it until 30 K. in fact, if the fluid looks ok, i'd probably just do a drain and refill at that point. and yes, toyota super long life coolant does not need to be changed until 100 K. its really too early to worry about these fluids, 8 K is nothing.

How does one go about cleaning and detailing his engine bay? I saw a guy at a car wash powerwashing his but ....idk
As far as preparing for winter, the car is brand new, only 2200 miles on it so all I could see myself doing is extensive waxing. I do whatever the car happens to need at that time whether it's a tire rotation, or oil change, windshield wiper change or flush of fluids but I plan on maintaining the preventive maintenance schedule on this thing so I guess I'm good.
I too am in the Dallas area. With a Gen 6 Camry, change the coolant at or near 100,000 miles. Use Toyota coolant to replace it. Do not use Prestone or anything else. The Toyota stuff keeps the water pump happy. If you want to have some fun check into how much fun it is to replace a water pump on these engines.
As for preparing for the change of seasons---what change? You have 2 seasons, summer and winter. Learn how to turn off the air conditioner and turn on the heater. Get an ice scraper at Pep Boys. You're ready.

I use the extended. Don't know why I can't find it at Walmart anymore.
And to the OP.. Maybe change to winter tire and U r good to go. LOL
whoa whoa whoa buddy! i think you are going over board with this "maint" stuff
like a lot of ppl mentioned, you dont need to flush your coolant or ur tranny, especially at 8k miles
nor do you need to seafoam your car
our weather doesnt dramatically change so theres no worries
with our weather, all you need to do is maintain the air in your tires, and oil changes, u already cleaned your air filter so ur pretty much set to go, just remember not to haul anything that you dont need (get rid of the junk in your trunk)
