5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My car has had a pile of problems. Right now I have a 60 months loan on it and get trade it for $25,000. I can lease a 2009 Camry SE 4-Cylinder [with leather] for $250 per month [a $150 per month drop from my current SE]. In addition, I can put $3,600 in my pocket by dumping my current SE.
or
I can lease another V6 Camry SE without leather, nav, and so forth for $255 per month.
Question: Am I an idiot for leasing a 4-Cyl. Camry SE with leather [includes heater mirros + seats] for $5 less dollar per month than a V6 SE without leather.
At the end of the day I am dumping the lemon in my signature.

He's already got a 09, and i dont think its the tranny issues he's dealing with.
It's up to you really, have you drove the I4 ? Some people say its weak or w.e but i find it fine, gets me from point a to b. So if u dont mind less power than it shouldnt be that bad. Also it has leather and more options so thats a plus.

I don't mind the I4. It is a drop from the V6, but I am getting help out of my SE V6 because of the issues. The replacement SE V6 with cloth has the JBL Sound System w/ 6-disc changer + bluetooth. The I4 does not have that, but leather w/ heated seats + mirrors helps more during the New England winters than a nice audio system. Honestly, I cannot tell the difference between my JBL and the stock system. The 6-disc changer I don't care about. The bluetooth is the only loss on the I4 other than the V6 power.

Stick with the V6. When you get the I4, you'll regret giving up the power and smoothness. The car you got was probably one of the bad ones...I say swap it for another V6.

Agreed, V6 is smoother. But then it comes leather seats, heated+ mirrors.Ummm its up to you ,if you need heated seats and mirrors more than V6 power than go with i4.
Maybe I will miss the V6, but right now I hate mine so much that I could careless what I drive. I just want to part ways with my POS. Certain things on it have not been the same since the repairs, ie. the dash. I for one will never OWN another Camry [lease ok]. If I have leased my car then I could be sure it was dumped in 3 years. Now with a loan I need the extra trade cash.

stay with your V6, TRUST me. Ive owned 2 cars equipped with the 2AZ-FE. my 03 and my 05. They were horrible for merging with more then 3 people in the car. And with the A/C on, in the summer. You'll find your foot on the floor with little to no acceleration happening. The 05 was actually DANGEROUS on the highway.

I love my I4 SE, never felt worried about merging on to the highway like others say. I recently had the car fully loaded for our trip to ATL including our golden retriever. Again felt safe and no problem maneuvering in and out of traffic around Atlanta.

OK, hang on just a darn minute. So, what exactly is in this "pile of problems?"
Looking back, I see some brake issue that was fixed. Some exterior paint issue that was fixed. Finally, some "color of the dash" that seems to be the only unresolved issue.
Are you saying that you want to bail out of the car BECAUSE THE COLOR OF THE DASH ISN'T QUITE RIGHT????????
Good lord, if that's essentially the issue here, I shudder to think about what you'll find wrong with "a whole lot less car" than what you've got right now.
So, how much money are you going to lose by "trading it in?" Compare that to how much it would cost you to "keep on trying to get the dealer to satisfy you under warranty." Or, you might even consider going to an upholstery shop or a top detailing shop, and see what they could do to change whatever it is that you find so irritating about that dash.
Word of advice that was told to me is....NEVER buy the first year of a new model as tempting as it may be, those are the cars that egineers use to make the next year with less problems. Really it's like anything else, if it's brand spanking new, no one knows the problems until they happen and filed, with that info in hand, the follow models will be made accordingly to avoid those problems. I noticed you have it labeled as an 09 so this may not able, but I'm happy with my I4, but having that V6 is nice, really it comes down to weither or not you'll miss that extra UMPH!
