What are those foam and plastic parts inside the doors?

I have a 2009 Camry SE, I'm in the process of sound deadening the doors. I noticed a foam rounded block that is attached to the interior of the front and rear doors. Some have a plastic piece that over the foam. I needed to remove these blocks to seal the doors and apply the deadening material. I had removed some of these blocks from my 2006 access cab front and access doors. I assumed they were only for support. They looked a bit more high tech and included some plastic on the 2009 Camry. Do this foam parts have a purpose, can they be removed without affecting anything? Thanks

I've removed them b4 on my old '02 LE when deadening the doors with no ill effect.U can shave it down so it will be flush with the panel when u put it back on.The foam acts as filler/buffer between the panel itself & the plastic barrier.

Mind taking a few pictures of how the door panels look like, that way I can figure out how much sound deadening material I can actually fit.

I'm so glad I'm done with my sound deadning. That was SO MUCH WORK. It was not hard, but it was mentally difficult taking apart a brand new car. I did like the door design. I don't recollect breaking too many clips at at all. I did leave my foam in place though. The problem doing so mean you cannot cover the holes and creat a second chamber between the door pannels.

I used Raamat from Raamaudio, it sticks better is a bit less expensive. I'll post some photos of my 2009 Camry SE install soon. I chose to remove the foam blocks in order to totally seal the doors. My worries were due to all the new air bags and sensors in the newer cars. You never know what part is used to tell the bags to deploy that work in conjunction to the electronic sensors.
