Yep, it's a chain in the 2AZ-FE. The V6 Gen 5 should have the belt changed every 6 years or 90,000 miles. Whichever comes first. Not 100,000 miles as stated above.
the 2az-fe 2.4 I4 has a timing chain, which under ordinary circumstances never has to be touched...in some cases the chain can stretch and will need replacing, but you'll hear it slapping around in the housing...ive never seen this happen with a 2az, but i recently replaced a timing chain in a 98 corolla 1zz-fe with 140k...it can happen
the 1mz-fe 3.0 V6 and 3mz-fe 3.3 V6 timing belts are due at 90k....i reccomend also replacing the waterpump and seals at that time as well
