5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just bought a 2005 XLE with 26k miles on it. I've got a couple of questions:
What are the common failures for this car?
Should I consider a 3rd party extended warranty?
I have a small squeek that seems to be coming from the driver's side seat belt adjuster area. Is this common? Any ideas how to track it down and fix it?
the squeak from the pillar can be resolved by taking it off and putting some sound dampening material on there so its not plastic on plastic
It's a 6 cyl. As near as I can tell, it's a fully optioned XLE.
How difficult is it to remove the pillar cover? What would you recommend, something like dynamat?

Dynamat would be more for audio. I know for Gen 6 (2007-2009), there are squeeks near the dash. I think people either use lub (dont know what kind) or felt.
before you remove the a pillar, put silicon spray in all the rubber gaskets around the door; that may take care of the noise. as far as failures, many camrys blow the water pump before 60k miles.
good luck, i hope you got a good deal.
