5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So I live in a gated housing community and there "supposedly" is a patrolling security guard but i know he doesn't do jack crap. I was awake till 4am and I didn't really hear anything specificlly drawing my attention. Woke up at 10am today and my car was vandalized... this is the SECOND time within a year my car has been vandalized. Last time was with a market and they drew on my hood and my trunk.
the first time i reported to police but this time I didn't even bother, there's no way they can catch who did it.
My QUESTIONS TO YOU GUYS!!
1) anyone know of anything I can use to remove permanent markets on cars?
2) also is there anythign to fill in the scratches on my cars? I'm thinking about buying some clay bar hopefully
3) is there any security way I can prevent this?!?! should I invest in a viper alarm system?!! is it worth it?!1
4) my other idea was just to install a camera either on my dash of my car or since i usually park outside my house, install it outside my window so it's recording my car....
any help or advice is useful, help me out guys i'm pissed
If I were you, I would GET THE HELL OUT OF THAT COMMUNITY RIGHT NOW!!!!! It'll get worse the next time, they might vandalize your house.
Where in Cali are you anyway?
Did you have any enemy? Ever pissed people off? Cuz I'm sure those guys know what they're targeting. Your neighbor's car is sittin' pretty I see.
1st: Take it to a Car Wash
2nd: Get some KIT Scratch Out to remove nasty scuffs / scratch
3rd: Get some touch up paints to cover the deep nasty scratch
4th: This is really important. GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE!!! It's for your own good.
Cameras won't do you any good, even if you caught them in the act, there is nothing you can do about it, they come with weapons.
i'm in riverside, the thing is, I doubt it's the people in the community doing this.... it's so damn easy to just hop the fence and get into my community.
but the thing is, out of all the cars in this community they pick a damn camry.... I don't get it... am I really being targeted?!?!
I'm a student so moving out of here isn't so easy. We have a lease for a year to finish... really pissed off.
As for Viper alarm, considering this is the second time, its worth it..whether its for vandalism like this or theft. You'll have to purchase some add-ons to your car since the alarm out of the box wouldnt really do much unless some tries to steal the car. Since they arent lifting or opening the door, you'll need a proximity module. The car will sense if someone is near the car. If so, the alarm would start to give a couple of beeps warning the person. If they are still there, the alarm will fully go off. With the Viper alarm, the 2 way remotes will alert you via remote to let you know its going off. Go to www.viper.com and search for an installer through their database for one near you. Call them up, let them know that your car is constantly being vandalized and ask them how much and what alarms they have in stock.
The only two 2way alarms that are good is 5901 (has LCD remote and only comes with 1 remote) and the newest 5701 (same features like 5701 but no LCD display and comes with 1way remote also). Visit their site for more information on each one.
For scratches, how deep are they? They dont seem to look that deep. Clay bar isnt used to remove scratches. If you dont want to get it repainted, I suggest just getting touch up paint from dealers.
Installing a camera on dash is a good idea but it will require a storage space such as memory card or harddrive to store the videos. What I suggest is make a complaint to whoever is in charge of the community security. If its a gated community, someone in that community is doing it or they are letting people in who dont belong there.
You can put a camera outside your house but you'll probably also need a light that is motion sensored. Best bet is to park in driveway. From the looks of the first pic, your car is across the street? Having the motion sensor and camera would not do any good if its across the street.
You said this is the 2nd time, right? That means they know who you are, if it's random, they would attack your neighbors cars instead. From what I see on that trunk, the FU writing, I'm sure they hate you very much.
Don't leave anything valuables in the car now.
How's the community? I heard Riverside is pretty bad ass, no offense, but it's the truth.
well the first time my car got vandalized along with another civic and a van in the guest parking. his hood and trunk was drawn on worse than mine. so i don't' think they were specifically targeting my car. but this time i'm not so sure because there are other camrys and nicer cars in our community and they picked mine.
The thing is, we have alot of people in the house and too many cars for the driveway so some of us have to park on the sidewalk. and you can only park on one side of the street because of fire lane. I live directly across the street from it. =/
yeah i'm definitely going to look into viper alarms, my funds that I was gonna use toward my rims are now probably going toward alarm =( my friend has hook ups to viper alarms so i'm seriously considering it. he said he can get me those with the remote warning when someones tampering with your car. i'm going to freaken tweak my viper alarm so sensitive that u walk near it, it'll go off >=|
do you think I have any luck complaining to my community for some compensation because after my midterm today I am going to visit my boardmember and bitch her out for the useless security guard and ask for "lack of' time logs of patrols and "lack of" security footage on the gate entrance =/

Since this is the second time you car has been vandalized, I suggest swapping cars. Have your car in the driveway and have another car that was in the driveway now go on the streets.
As stated, the remote warning is what I mentioned, it is a 2way remote. If your alarm goes off, your remote will alert you.
Since the car is parked across the street, having a motion sensored light would not work.
You should complain to whoever is in charge of the community and see what they say. If they dont do anything, move up in chain to the next higher up. You are paying them right? You can get other neighbors or those who had their car vandalized also complain.
i'm considering cameras like this, where it's wireless. this way I can hook it up to my laptop in my room, and either put it outside my window or even IN THE CAR DASH, since i park close to my house, I should still be able to pick up the signals.
I'm definetlly going to get alarm then the camera if anything though... thanks for the input, any more car care advice for deep scratches? my friend said claybars only for the clear coat?
Man, I felt for you.
I would install a camera like dcemureviews suggested. But you'll need to park in the driveway or at least infront of
the house you so that the floodlight with sensors can turn on when it detected a motions.
Another option would be installed a fake camera and make it visible to others.
Then put a warning sign on your car that "We can see you through our camera..."
Two things will happen:
1. They still don't care will beat the crap out of your car or
2. They don't want to get in trouble knowing there is a camera.
Hopefully, they will come to their senses.
Good luck and keep us posted.

i would hide in the trunk for a few nights. And if i herd em. id jump out and beat them with my tire iron
hahahaha. I fell out of my chair reading this. I would wash the car then use rubbing compound or clay bar to remove the writing from the permanent marker. Good luck!
