Hey guys, i have a 2005 toyota camry le, and ive heard people saying the best halogen bulbs are Toshiba HIR bulbs, is this true? are they legal? i live in the state of washington, and also do they blind people when i use this bulb since it puts out more lumes?
Probably about as legal as putting 9005s in your lows... The filaments on the HIR and stock 9006 bulbs are in about the same places, but the optics might not be good enough to prevent excessive glare. For example upward pointing light might be acceptable with the output from 9006 but might be excessive when you stick the HIR on there because they have a lot more light output.
so should i still put them in? how bad is the glare? is it bad enought that i cop will notice and pull you over for it? becuase hid's are blinding as hell from the other direction
i have them in my highs, same beam just brighter alot bighter,
i have them in my dad silverado same beam also just alot brighter....
go for it

No idea, I've never used them. The $30/bulb was always a deterrent for me.
I've never had a problem outrunning my highs with regular 9005 bulbs. Even going 65ish on a road where there are zero lights, aside from moon light, for over 150 miles where you might see two other cars over a period of one hour was not a problem.

HIR bulbs are definitely the way to go if you do not want to retrofit projectors into your headlamps. I have been using HIR's for at least 2 years now and they have amazing light output and not too much glare. I will admit sometimes i do get high beamed but only when I am on an incline and they are approaching the opposite way. I rarely ever shine into anyone's car from behind. Even better, I would do the 9006-9005 mod to the HIR's like I have done and that will get you an extra 10w i believe.
I don't know why I keep hearing that HID's are blinding on the other side, I've had my set for a lil over 2 weeks and they are not retro'd and I haven't been flashed at all, and I do most of my driving at night.

just because you havent been flashed doesnt mean you arent blinding people. They may be too blinded to be able to react quickly enough

Also, it is a saftey issue not to flash others in my area.
I have heared too many stories on the news that people got shot at/ beat up because they flashed at oncoming cars.

I always thought that was an old myth.. the story of gang members driving with their lights off and if someone flashed them, they would kill them or something of the like

Yea, I think here in LA is the same, that's why I don't bother flashing when I see cars with no lights. Heck, who cares if they got into an accident cuz they can't see anything.
