5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just thought I'd post some pics of my new headunit...and create a thread just for Pioneer Avic-D3 & Camry Owners. I upgraded the standard NON-JBL system to the Pioneer Avic-D3. I have to say the "paper" OEM speakers sound awesome! I was planning on upgrading them soon, but I think I can hold off for now.
eBay prices paid: Avic-D3 Headunit, matching Camry faceplate, PAC SWI-PS steering control module, iPod cable and XM GEX-P10XMT module - $377. Back-up Camera - $18. Bluetooth - $90 Install - $200
TOTAL = $685 for everything
FYI - I purchased the Scosche Adapter to use the iPod cable to charge the 3G iPhone.
Last thing waiting to install is DTV w/ Antenna...PICS to Follow!
nice install, looks like the kit fit good and colour matched great. But it looks kinda plain with so much extra space left around the unit. anyways good job!
Did you buy an adaptor to have the steering controls be functionable?
Do you have JBL speakers originally? Did you have to get an adaptor to bypass the amp?
The D3 has a wired remote input for the stock steering wheel controls (audio only). All he would need is a PAC Pioneer steering wheel adapter. As far as the JBL issue, yes he would have had to get a Metra or Scoche digital bypass for the Toyota JBL.
I hope the OP got a steal on that head unit since it is over 2 years old and most reputable shops have stopped carrying it. Pioneer navs tend to be a bit slow in terms of bootup time and their newest line of entry level navs have had a well documented problem regarding subpar performance. Personally I would have gotten the Kenwood with Garmin nav software or a higher end Pioneer with a hard drive.
I decided to go this route only to stay close to $500 for everything. If I was in the car longer than 10 minutes per trip I'd say spend the $1000+ for a legitimate Nav system.
