5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I had a quick question regarding the underside of the Camry. Was going over an abnormally large speed bump today at moderate speeds and after the front wheels went over it i heard a loud bam, apparently the cars underside hit the speed bump.
Car seems to be driving normal. Except for the abnormally large flare i got right after...
Of course there's a need for concern, even if it's just to be secure when driving the vehicle from now on; that car is your ever-depreciating investment. Have the underbody inspected. I hope all is well.
I guess there's a little "flaring up" in this topic...
The bottom seems ok....i mean i took a quick glance and it's seems like the bottom is made of pretty strong stuff. No dents or anything...
Sure seem that way!
If you are not feeling anything abnormal with the operation of the car, just have it look at the next oil change. Bottoming out over speed bumps and driveway can be unnerving sometimes but most of the time the car can take it with some minor scratches underneath.
Although many cars have aluminum components/ lighter weight components under the car these days, these cars are built to take some beating. There shouldn't be any problems if you don't hear any abnormal clicking, popping, or clunking... lol

You're paranoid. JK lol sorry, you asked for it.
On a serious note, I would also be concerned. Go check it out...

yeah should also check it out after. Me and my friends went out for lunch and he was driving his altima, parked and hit the parking concrete bump, that it was only a scrape on the bottom front lip. But as we stepped out the car...several quarts of oil was spilling alll over the place. lol yeah it sucked. He didnt want to pay for a tow truck, so he drove it to my friends nearby house with no oil.....w/e not my car lol

anyway, if you are concerned with the integrity and safety of your camry after hitting the bump, go to the dealer and have them inspect the undercarriage...ive hit a few speedbumps and gotten a similar noise, and all i did was bottom out the frame rails and scratched them, and im sure you did something similar

It is highly possible, you bottom out one time, you will start wondering when it is going to happen again!
Just look at the car when it is up in the air, they didn't put it up in the air because they know they can't charge you anything if they don't have anything to fix; however, with it on the ground they can't see much either.
