5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey guys I just installed my new(used) Whiteline RSB for my 05. I'm sorry I didnt take any pictures, but I wanted to get the install in before it got dark(just made it too!). If I have the time, maybe I will update it in a later time.
Install: I needed 12mm and 14mm socket wrenches and also an extension. I also needed an allen key(not sure what size). Jack and jackstands of course.
I started out on the drivers side and loosened the nut that was attached to the endlink. Once that was off, I moved to the bracket that was holding the stock RSB in place(where the rubber ring sits on the RSB). There are 3 bolts of 12mm size that you need to remove; 1 below the bar and 2 above the bar. Once the 3 bolts and 1 nut is removed, the whole side is swinging free.
When I moved to the pass. side, I attacked the bracket first. Once the 3 bolts were removed, I realized I made a mistake. I should have removed the nut first. The problem was that the bar was totally free swinging now and there was no leverage to loosen the nut attached to the endlink. I re-attached the bolts a few turns and loosened and removed the nut from the endlink.
The RSB was now totally free. The next part was tricky: Removing the bar. It sits above the exhaust pipe and there isnt much room for rotation. The way I did it was move the drivers side towards the rear of the rear tire and slide it all the way out until the right side can go no further. Once in that position, I angled the bar towards the front of the rear pass. tire and moved it until the left side of the bar could go no further. At this position, there is enough play in the bar so that you can rotate the left side to make it over the exhaust pipe.
Now that the OEM RSB was removed, I slipped the Whiteline RSB in the same way I removed the OEM RSB. Bolted it up the same way I removed all the bolts. Attached the brackets first and then the nut on the end link. Voila! RSB installed.
First impression: I took it out for a quick drive to a few places that I felt a lot of body roll when making a turn. I definitely felt a difference. There was little body roll on 30-40 mph turns where before the car would just plow. I still have to take it around a curve we have here on a highway that produces a good amount of lateral G. Normally I can go around it at 50-60 but I will try and push it.

Reason: Accidentally pressed enter
Yes, 6'2", 200 pounds. I coud reach everything comfortably from behind the rear tires.
My Camry is not lowered though.
Is yours 20 mm diameter? That would make a bigger difference, as mine is a 19mm.
What was the allen key for?
My Camry is not lowered either..
As for the allen key.. Here is a picture that is similar to our setup, but obviously not ours. In the yellow circle, that is the nut for the endlink. Inside is where I placed the allen key because it would rotate with the nut. I am not sure what it is called though.
Wasnt it a bit cold outside to be doing that? I was freezing and sweating at the same time helping my cousin move boxes from inside the apartment to the minivan.

yupppp and i did it right before it got dark too... from 3-430.. my whole body was numb from laying on the ground. my hands are all chapped from torquing the nuts and bolts.. but it was worth it

Any other mods you doing? I'll help. I'm having mods withdrawl. The only mod left for me to do is replace the LED in my shifter. For whatever reason, it didnt work Friday night. Probably busted when a stupid lady in a minivan almost smacked into my car. I had to swerve and jumped the curb inorder to avoid her. I was so heated, as I passed her, she started to curse me out and give me the finger. Went around her and put on my brakes. She tried to go around and I blocked her. But I put the original bulb back for now and removed the green cover. So I have to order a new one but not worth paying $4-$5 shipping on a $2.50 LED. Its brighter without the green rubber cover but the bulb is like orange.
hey randy that pic shows the front sway bar....i can see the steering knuckle in that pic...does whiteline make a FSB for the gen 5?
no i just wanted to show njerald where i used the allen key.. i just used the first pic that came up on google images that resembled what i wanted to show..

Either superbrightleds.com or autolumination.com. The original LED that I ordered from was from autolumination but I dont think I want to order from there. SBL has warranty for 1 year. At AL, you have to pay.
