hey guys, first thread ever here. i got me a 09 camry i4. since the dealer till now, the car has been pretty much mint. the other day i took my friend home and pulled up into a driveway that didnt seem steep at all.. something i always go on everyday, but idk i guess i was going faster then usual so i bottomed out the front end pretty good. the bumper is scratched on the VERY bottom, cant notice it from the front or anything. the thing that is making me paranoid is how loud it was. so i know it was a pretty good hit. besides the scratched bumper, the underbody engine splash cover got scraped and dugged in through to the metal/chassis i guess or sumthin but slightly scratched it. i didnt feel a dent, but a good scratch in the metal. you think i should worry bout something eles? i mean it was hard enough of a hit to scrape away an opening about and inch long and the concrete scratched the metal on the other side of the splashgaurd. should i worry bout other stuff being bent? would pics help? its driving me nuts!! unless sum of you guys can tell me some experiences of scraping the front in to make me feel better =)
see the thread call me paranoid...
lots of people bottoming out lately
as long as you didn't dent the oil or transmission pans which are farther back under the splashguard and raised slightly off the frame to prevent damage...im assuming you didnt damage anything integral, you most likely just scratched the underside of the bumper, the splashguard and the metal support for said splashguard...
remember man...slow over speedbumps, and always take large ones at an angle!
i dont even know. i was busy looking at my friends face in disbelief of the boom noise =( if it was a hard enough hit to bend and dent the frame, im sure the scratch would be a whole lot deeper. but this is just enough of a scrape to grind the plastic away and lightly shave across the metal. would you still stress over that? if i only didnt give my friend a ride home from work =(
thanks for that reference to the call me paranoid post. i was searching Bottoming out and came out nothin really. i gotta take a look at the bottom on a saturday morning or something to see if that metal part is somthing i can easily replace.. i'll admit it, im a perfectionist, and its my first baby to! theres no way the frame or any major compenent will be bent from a thing like that right? more of just a cosmetic issue?
besides that gash in the plastic where you can see the scratched metal.theres nothin eles really. just the scratched metal is bothering me.. alright thanks guys. i'll take it apart to see if anything serious can be found lol but yea i gotta a better peace of mind now. thanks!
I scrape the bottom of my lip on my SE parking on curbs/ parking guide seperator things whatever they are called it sucks I wish I had like one more inch clearance makes me cringe every time but no real damage its deffinetly scratched on the bottom but not noticeable even when up on a lift
LOL. i experienced that myself too. ive underestimated how steep the driveway was and scratched the bottom of the lip twice already. It happens to us all no matter how careful we are.
I always take bumps at an angle, ever since I scrape my front bumper too.

this is good
go slow on the speed bumps and on angles.
my advice is, just avoid them if you can
small bumps, big bumps, they are all the same to me. they scream scrape the underside...
