Visited dealer today...they are ignoring my 2nd tranny flaring up. What to do?
Hey guys, I visited my dealer for service today. I had told them that I wanted to test drive with a mechanic, but instead a mechanic just came out to take notes and said he's test drive the car later in the day.
The problems I reported were:
1) Transmission flare 2nd to 3rd gear
2) Transmission harsh downshift 5th to 4th gear
3) Transmission making constant high-pitched noise when in reverse
4) Bluetooth only works half the time
5) Rattling in the front passenger door
6) Dash creaking on right side when cold
My car is an 07 Camry SE V6. At around 46000KM, the first tranny died. They put in a new one but for the last 10000KM I've been monitoring the development of new issues.
I've already showed the 2 to 3 flare to my mechanic and he also confirms that there's a high pitched noise when in reverse. Yet the dealer clearly doesn't want to help me. They claimed the tranny worked perfectly, there was no flare, no harsh downshift and no high pitched noise when in reverse.
What would you recommend that I do?

Just keep bothering them and try to get another mechanic to agree with your issues..maybe a friend that owns a shop.
Since we're talking about tranys, anyone with a '07 I4 5spd have any shifting issues?
I tend to grind 2nd from time to time at higher revs even with the cluth all the way down and my first gear pops out of gear when i go to shift (very harshly) like i hit it with a hammer. The shifts are also not smooth at all. It sticks in frist and 3rd and it just drops in 4th. Now that i think about it..the thing is shot. Only 19k miles.

Anyone have similar problems?
Not sure about your prob but in my 5spd accord, under hard acceleration my first gear usually pops out too
The strange thing is that the "master mechanic" at this dealer was the same guy who, without resistance, replaced my first transmission. And he performed some sort of "service bulletin" which updated the ECU with different shift instructions.
But today for some reason he gave me a lot of resistance and declared that all 3 symptoms I have reported are false. And also when I asked him about another newer ECU update, he said those didn't exist (despite him doing exactly this for me during the summer successfully). What the heck?
I drive this car each day, you can be 100% sure that I am reporting REAL problems which EXIST.
To be honest, I am not really bothered by the symptoms because my first tranny had much more severe symptoms and I lived with those for over 40000KM. What I'm afraid of is total tranny failure to happen again.
And I don't even know what to tell Toyota Canada. This is a case when it's about reproducing the symptoms for the dealer. My Camry of course refuses to flare precisely when I'm at the dealer. Go figure...
My mechanic friend who maintains my Camry has been able to reproduce all 3 symptoms successfully...
The dealer has ordered me a new front right door speaker and an entirely new JBL head unit. When I go in next week to have those replaced maybe I'll request a techy to drive with me in the car. I'm quite sure I can reproduce at least the upshift flare and reverse high pitch noise.
Redline_Me, I am sorry to hear about your manual tranny problems. It's extremely frustrating that in this day and age of electronics we're still having problems with the mechanical parts, isn't it? Do not hesitate to approach your dealer about your transmission. Such an essential mechanic part which directs the entire locomotion of our cars MUST work properly!

Ask the service manager and demand that you see the shop foreman and have him ride with you or tell him about the situation
I had my car taken in 3 times to get the tranny flare fix, twice got the tranny replaced, the last time, they replaced the tranny and had the shop foreman take it out for a day or so to make sure it got fixed
they fixed it but every now and then it flares very little but its like 1 out of 100 times or something
good luck man!

While I haven't had a serious tranny problem like what you described, I have had a ton of other problems. My Camry is still having the flare problem on the 2-3 and sometimes 3-4. They have already reflashed the ECU a couple times and the problem still persists. I sent a letter to Toyota of North America in hopes that they will finally properly address all the problems with my car but I have serious doubts that they care to help at this point.
I think that Toyota corporate is seriously cutting back on their warranty budget so we are all probably going to have more trouble with correcting warranty issues in the coming months. Good luck on getting your car's issues worked out.
