Oil Filter

Ok, I crawled under my 09 Camry last night. I finally see where the oil filter is. The oil filter is so small!! Did anyone put a bigger oil filter on their car!! I did this with my 07 Xterra. It will have more media and will hold more oil

If the car needed a bigger oil filter, I would imagine the Toyota Engineers would have designed it that way, and remember; bigger isnt always better. The smaller filter may have more filtration properties than the larger filter.

Filter surface is what matter.

More Baloney.

Filter area, construction, strength and filter passing size are all equally important.

Using your own word "More Baloney".

The screw in cover of the filter is important. If the cover fall off and lost and all the oil would run empty in no time and...........

You idiot, the OP is talking about the size of the filter.. not it's construction. If you say it's related than I say the screw in cover is related too. Old oil going in is still better than NO oil going in.

Anyway, back to the original topic.. most of the time the reason for larger filter is to increase this surface area and in turn it also relieve the pressure.

(sorry to use the "You idiot")

I have taken apart many filters from my own use and also seen comparisons of filters dissected on the web. It is true there are better made filters.

Filter size selection is based on many constraints.

Clearances are the prime consideration (ground clearance, other moving parts, etc.) and serviceability for reaching into the space.

I wanted to use the largest available filter with 3/4-16 thread onto my V6 but it won't fit! so now I use that filter for another project.

Before the largest filter is picked, the Flow rate, pressure fluctuations and filter rigidity needs to be evaluated. High performance engines use usually pick small filters due to their very stiff construction, smaller length of seams and resistance to bursting.

Life expectancy for the filter will determine filter area and filtration ability (beta ratios).
So the small filter will likely be optimized for the 7500 km change interval.

i only use genuine toyota filters....if you think the toyota YZZF1 camry filters are small, you should see the corolla/yaris's YZZF2 filter

seriously...i dont dare mess with a design toyota created for one of the most integral parts of the vehicle...the filter is that size for a reason

I think one reason the filter is that size is because for about the past 20 years or so, Toyota only had two oil filters that were used on I4 car engines. This decision may have been made to simplify logistical operations.
