Mine is doing a terrible job. So I took it to the dealer to ask what the deal was. He said that it wasn't meant to melt snow and ice, only to dry up the morning dew in order for you to see out the back. I ran mine 4 times in a row to melt some snow/ice and it did jack squat.
I've never owned a car with such a terrible rear defroster. So my question is, do you guys agree with the dealer or think have a problem with mine?

Read your Owners Manual.
How are we supposed to know whether it's working at all or not? The dealer has a procedure for testing.
Oh I forgot to add, mine works great on De-Fog only, not for ice or snow, if that's the case, then yes have to pour something first, because it will melt ice very slowly, I can't wait that long. Never tried on snow.
I agree with the dealer and the other post. It is for clearing frost, drying dew, defogging, and maybe some very very light ice. I have never owned a car that totally cleared a window of snow with out clearing the window off first. Like ngerald said, they have a procedure to test it. Good luck.
Well i'm the fool here. I looked it up and it clearly states that it is a rear defogger. Worthless to a guy that come from a Mitsubishi Eclipse that had a defroster and a wiper.
I perceive no difference between a defogger and a defroster. But, a deICER? I doubt a car made has such a rear window. Aircraft have deicers in their wings, and the fuselage goes through deicing prior to takeoff.

If your dealer CLEARLY told you that the rear defogger isn't used to melt ice or snow, why are you trying to use it to do so....and why complain that it won't do what you were just told it isn't supposed to do in the first place?
When it snows, I clear my roof, windows and side-view mirrors of ice and snow on my own.
Well the best advice is to keep a proper snow brush and scraper. However, I think it's strange how your 2009 Camry's rear defroster is not defrosting anything.
Tonight it's -12*C (10*F) and -20 (-4*F) with the wind. I was outside with my Camry and the defroster prevented any snow from collecting on my rear window.

I agree with original poster, weakest rear window defroster I have ever owned. Couldn't even keep light snow off as I was driving. Njerald needs anger management courses.
