5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Alright I'm a DJ and I had the wonderful idea of instead of buying car audio for my new camry, I wanted to put in some of my old Pro audio subs into the car. I put an amp and the two subs into the car, I plugged the amp into the 12Volt in the car charger, and I plugged my Ipod into the amp as well as the AUX input for my Camry's sound system, thinking that it would be able to play through both of the sound systems. Now logically, this should have worked, but for some reason it didn't. For some reason, everytime my Pro audio speakers were playing, all I could hear the the Camry's speakers was complete interference, almost as if the pro audio speakers were blocking out the reception for the Camry's speakers for some reason .
So now I'm thinking that the only way this will work is if I get the RCA out from the Camry's audio output plugged directly into my amplifier. I don't know much about how car audio works, but I looked at a car audio amp and noticed that they have RCA inputs on the back of them as well, so I'm guessing that to hook them up, you have to hook up the Car's RCA outs to the the amps RCA's in.
So what I need from you great people at Toyotanation is help on how and where I can get to my RCA output in my car, where I can find that cable?
Will I need to open the audio console and rewire stuff to make an RCA out (which would suck)? Or is there one just hidden somewhere where my dumbass can't find it?
Normally, your stock head unit on the Gen6 Camrys doesnt have RCA's out or anything like there, theres going to be 3 plugs that you have to splice into with an adaptor to be able to get RCA's out.
Yeah, you would have to open the center console to take the head unit out, which involves removing the covers for the cupholders and shift knob, as well as the center HVAC vents, as well as that little box underneath the climate control, as well as the climate control, lol.
...to add a sub I used a line out converter, which converts the high level speaker input to RCA out. You splice/tap these into any of your speakers and voila. But not sure if I would use other than car specific sub's...

Look under PAC TRUNK LOC...
2 to 40 Watts per Channel was enough for you? i just did some research on the PAC TRUNK LOC and thats what it said it could produce?
well i already had both of my speakers in the car bouncing, i just couldnt split the sound to include my Camry speakers so that i could have complete surround sound, I could just have my ipod feed my two pro audio speakers
but it was pretty kick ass because pro audio >> car audio so it sounded alot better hah
I used to bring those subs for djing weddings and proms and stuff, so they kick pretty big ass, i dont see why i wouldnt use them in my car?

naw don't have the JBL system, i have the standard system the camry comes with, but I'll be looking thru the manual you sent me, thanks for the link bro!

I e-mailed with a PAC tech and he confirmed you can use them up to 80W/channel. The JBL system has 440W for all 6 speakers (the rear are woofers with tweeters) and I think I am okay. The PAC TRUNK LOC does not produce anything but simply converts the high level speaker input to low level RCA out - the speakers are basically unaffected. I like these TRUNK LOC's as they have noise filter, 20Hz subsonic filter, and a remote amp turn on included. Makes install a piece of cake.
