Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Anyone recently tried snow chains or cables on a 2007-2009 camry? I read before on this forum that one person had problems with the chains ripping abs/brake cables behind the tire. Just curious if this happen to other people.
I am also curious as to people's experiences with chains and the types of chains used. I'm on the West coast so snow tires don't seem necessary (we can run studed tires here in WA state, but I hate to run them).
I have a 4X4 with good tires and chains for the once every year or two that we get this type of weather, but I would like to put a set of chains in the trunk for emergency. I don't want that emergency to damage anything behind the tire or my SE bodywork.
Chains? I don't know. The spray stuff looks like a joke.
Michelin X-ice are excellent but were given second (this year) place to Bridgestone Blizzak WS 60, Toyo Observe G-02 Plus and Yokohamma Ice Guard by Protegez-Vous, a Quebec based consumer magazine similar to Consumer Reports. Dunlop Graspics 2 also come in second but are good value from Wal-Mart.
just went up to big bear, got those cheap 40 dollar ladder chains and they were adequate for the small amounts of snow though they do slip.
as for clearance, my camry had enough room to install them and had no problem using them for 4 days straight. i also purchased the bungee cord that pulls the chains tighter.
