How to watch DVD's while driving--2005 XLE

Hey yall, my mother was wondering how to watch DVD's while driving. We are going to take a trip from Columbia, SC to Miami, FL and leaving on the 26th. It would be really nice to play them on them on the way down. I've heard rumors of about grounding the parking brake wire, but is that going to mess anything else up?

We have the in-dash navagation that will play the DVD's if you are in park with the parking brake on.

I'm an electronics tech by trade, but would rather get clear cut instructions so I don't screw anything up in her car. She'd kill me. Thanks

Ok, so I tried the top left, bottom left, top left, bottom left trick and it brough me to the "tech screen". I held the Override button button until it blinked. I couldn't figure out how to play a DVD after that. I put the Matrix DVD in the bottom slot behind the screen where the NAV CD usually goes and also tried it in the normal CD slot. Neither of them worked. It's a JBL system....just wondering if I'm doing anything wrong.

Thanks

-Steve

Since you have the Toyota jbl system. I wouldn't risk connecting the ground and brake wire together. Thats how I connected my indash, it was an aftermarket one. But its pretty dangerous to have a dvd playing with driving. It can get pretty distracting.

671toyota, I'm not knocking you but I've read some of the the other posts concerning this subject. It seems like EVERYONE is so concerned about having a movie in while in motion and how un-safe this is. I'm trying to do this for the other people in the car, not myself. I've got an 11 hour car ride with my mother and girlfriend and desperately need to keep them occupied so please spare me the "it's distracting to the driver" comments over and over. If I can get that DVD going, they are going to be a lot less of a distraction to me while I'm driving so it will be worth the risk.

i almost got a ticket for having my indash playing a music video, officer let me go with a warning because he can't find the citation number.

I ground my ebrake line on my aftermarket unit ( kenwood ddx6019).

Eleven hour drive. Now I see why you want the player to work. My fault. Good luck with the dvd player working. Wish i had the dvd and navigation combo.

Consider bringing an inexpensive DVD player with a headset for your front seat passenger.

Distracted driving is like DUI! Don't do it. Forget being illegal (it is). Think about getting to your destination without killing yourself or someone else. Isn't that the point?

However, I love cutting up cars after an accident so it really doesn't bother me if you crash as long as you don't hit someone else.

Be good!

This is one of those laws I choose not to abide by. This type of law was enacted for the stupid irresponsible morons who can't think for themselves. It was meant to save them from their own stupidity. I'm glad you follow it. It will me feel a little more safe driving on the way down. Merry Christmas, Dick.

Thanks Princess for reading this thread and posting something worth reading. Hope you have a Merry Christmas and enjoy time with loved ones. We are going to take a laptop in the car with an inverter if we can't get the DVD player indash to work. It would be really nice having the speakers in the car playing the sound verses the crappy laptop speakers.

Does anyone know how to play the DVD's with the car in park?

Thanks

Agreed, get a small portable DVD player. I've used them before with ASL translation and it's very handy.

It'd be nice to have, but I've already got a DVD player in the dash that I would like to use. No sense in spending $100 for something that is just going to clutter up the car when I can use what I've already got. Plus, where am I going to find a portable DVD player on Christmas Day? I'm leaving at 5am tomorrow morning...

Before you try grounding the ebrake wire, try driving slowly with the ebrake on 1 click. If it keeps playing while driving ground that sucker. It it stops playing it has a motion sensor or is some how attached to the speed sensor.

I'm having the problem that I can't get it to play while it's even in park with the parking brake on. It doesn't recognize the DVD in either disc slot.

It doesn't play DVD's. It's not made to.
