Hey guys I'm new to TN and looking to do an exhaust on my 08 i4 SE and trying to figure out what to do. I'm looking for a nice rumble from my exhaust that isn't obnoxious so i have a few questions for you seasoned vets... has anyone installed the new TRD exhaust for the i4 and is it worth the $$? Or should I go with the megan racing? or even a custom cat back?
Why should i not modify it? And so you guys know i have been in that forum before and there isnt any mention of the i4 cat back system from TRD only of the v6... they do make a cat back for the i4 now... or at least some website are selling one, maybe it is having the same problems as the v6 was when it came out
Anyone else have something that will actually help me out here?
TRD is a bit overpriced, mainly paying for the name, but it does look OEM with a nicer sound...you could probably get a nicer exhaust and cheaper in price if you go custom catback...never seen or heard the Megan Racing one so i can't comment on that.
I believe the TRD for the I4 was long out before the V6 dual version.....not? Anyway, +1 with Punk = go custom. Select the muffler you like and add a nice, high quality tip you like and the sound and looks will be what you want and you save some money. Their is no magic to the TRD or Megan exhaust either.

Let me know
welcome to TN. first, do a search on the exhausts you mentioned and you'll find some useful information. by doing so, you would've found out a member here by the name of sik camry had it installed as the first and only prototype install from megan racing. secondly, there are a few others here on TN who have purchased the TRD catback and installed it. I suggest you pm either of them and gauge their experiences.
i have heard sik camry's setup and thought it had a nice deep tone with no rasp to it vs. my current magnaflow setup. the canister/muffler wasn't bulky and it didn't look ricey. with the trd setup, you'd be getting more of an OEM look.
Custom would be the same as getting a good catback, depends on the shop putting it in and making sure not to do any crush bending.
If you toss in a high flo cat and maybe remove resonator, and have a shop do mandrel bends, you would have a fantastic exhaust system with most axlebacks.

the mrsp pricing on the megan isn't that bad and i'm sure it would cost as much or even more to make a custom catback. i'd go with the megan over custom since it's direct bolt on and would involve less labor.
I think some people should just answer his question, if someone has a negative response, or a "use the search" then don't even reply. Its a waste of typing, if you cant help with the situation then dont say anything, im sure everyone knows how to search, people just want the easy answer.
