2009 LE Remote Start Installation Problem

I just installed the Toyota Remote Engine Start in my 2009 LE and cannot get the registration completed. I have followed directions and reset everything (battery disconnect, diagnostic connector unhooked) but cannot get the final immobilizer system to register. The first two registration steps work.

I asked the dealer where I bought to make sure I had latest revision of installation instructions and he told me I did. Issue: D 5/02/07.

If anyone has had similar problems or has any idea where I can get ahold of a technical guru or knows of a solution, I would much appreciate. Car is without smart entry and was prewired for hood switch.

Thanks,
Kendall

you can check out prices online. I needed hood switch also. let's just say more than I paid for the aftermarket unit I had installed on my wife's Highlander.

400 for the RES and the hood switch. it was best price I found online. I know there are some great aftemarket units, I wanted to stick with Toyota brand. Installation was not bad. Harness plugged into existing harnesses. Took longer to take all the interior panels off than to actually install the harness and ECUs. I'd be real happy if I could get it to register and work.....

Know any Toyota electronics gurus?

The ECUs were in the original packaging when I opened the box. It does not appear anyone else had done anything with them. Does the dealer need to program?

Unless you have the intelligent tester that is written about in the instructions.

Vehicles with smart entry require the use of the scan tool. Vehicles without do not require scan tool. No mention of any programming other than key and door sequences in instructions. I can read. Thanks.

So, I originally signed up for, and posted on this forum hoping for people to share their experiences and possibly some technical knowledge they might have regarding Camry modifications.

Basically I expereienced a smart @$$ quoting the WRONG installation instructions and no one willing to detail their experiences.

Here is the deal for Toyota RES installation that I am willing to share with everyone. You DO NOT NEED the dealer for a Camry similar to mine. No smart entry. What I paid to find out today is something I experienced from using a performance programmer on my tow vehicle years ago, but was not in the Toyota instructions for the RES and I did not think of. The instructions do not state it, however, make sure EVERYTHING is turned off before you begin registration procedures. DRLs, HVAC fan, radio, dome lights, I mean EVERYTHING before you go through registration instructions.

You will end up with a nice OEM option. Good enough for my work car.

How much did the Genuine Toyota unit set you back? I have a similar 09 LE without SmartKey access and am interested in doing this to my car.

Thanks

pedron,

sorry for my late reply, but got real busy with work right after the holidays. google trd sparks toyota and these guys have the pdf files for all installation instructions for the accessories online. It will spell out exactly what you need to do to install on your ride. google the part number for the remote start and don't forget the hood switch part number for the lowest prices. I like the fact that the Toyota remote does not change any of the other factory settings like horn sounding or locks beeping when you lock or unlock. Some of the aftermakets do squirrelly things, in my opinion.
I'm very happy with the remote start now that I have used it for awhile. The engine does stop running when you hit the unlock button to enter the car and you need to restart when you sit in the car, but so what. You keep the factory key fob and don't have to carry anything else around.
