Camry 2006 Transmission Question

I have a 2006 Camry LE 2.4 with 37,000 miles on the odometer. Once in a long while when I am coming to complete stop, the transmission will make a jerk or clunk as it is down shifting. Is this normal? I have checked the fluid level and it shows full.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

When do you feel this clunk, any particular speed? Or is it almost to a stop before you feel this clunk?

There was a TSB: toyota.justanswer.com/uploads/snd27613/2008-05-15_091519_shift_tsib.pdf, but the condition is for a harsh shift at higher speed though.

My old 95 camry clunks in every gear upshifting, downshifting it's fine though, I just drive it very carefully. The newer 5 speeds are a completely different animal. I was driving an 09 today and with the electronically controlled tranny the RPM's are all over the place up and down between shift points and it seems a little nuts to me actually. I think I have heard of your problem on other forums, the complaint being as simple as why can't the car just coast to a stop. Quicker stop?, or coasting stop? Keep an eye on the RPM's when this occurs. My only guess is that the car is downshifting rapidly.

i used my sequential shift to downshift into 1st when breaking hard the other day. And my god, the whole car shuttered violently. it sounded like the tranny fell out!

When the clunk happens, I am almost completely stopped. This happens when I have been at freeway speeds and then come to a stop after leaving the freeway. It does not do it all the time. In around town driving, under 45 MPH it does not seem to do this. I am stumped.

I am the only one driving it now. About a year ago my wife was the main driver until we got a Camry Hybrid for her.

dis-connect the battery over night. That will reset the ECU for the engine and trans. The car may need to learn your driving style.

Since it is not acting up all the time, the only thing you can do right now is to keep track of the outside and operation conditions when it does happen again. With more information maybe then we can make some sense of what is going on!

What happens to all the door operations for locking and the like when you dis-connect the battery? Do you only do the negative terminal or both?

If it only happens once in a long while, resetting the memory is not going to change anything.

just dis-connect the negative. You'll have to re program the door locks as per in the manual. And your radio presets will be erased.

For my own Camry, there's something I like to now. The symbol, # ,makes for me difficult to decide if my number is before or after. My number is:
4T1BE46K87U517166
I've been reading the pdf document and it says;

This TSB applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.
MODEL ENGINE PLANT PRODUCTION CHANGE EFFECTIVE VIN
Tsutsumi JTNBE46K#83146849
4T1BE46K#9U267985
TMMK
4T1BE46K#9U797632
Camry 2AZ-FE
SIA 4T4BE46K#8R037795

Can you tell me, do I need to do this TSB ?
(I imported my Camry from America to Holland, so I can't ask anyone about the cars history.)
Thanks,
AloRock

This is one place to look to see if there are any TSB's for you car. Just put in your vehicle info. I am sure google will turn up more sites to check too.

Just take it into the dealer and have them check it out. Powertrain warranty is 5yr 60,000 miles so you should still covered.

I took my 05 in for similar shifting and they told me everything was up to date. They told me it was just the design of the transmission. Which many post out here confirm what I was feeling was just the transmission design.

I did the battery disconnect a couple of months ago and that seemed to help out allot in my case.

Good luck!
