My attempt at getting my DRL's disabled....

So I want my DRL's disabled on my 05 and from all my research, I believe the only way to do this is to have the service dept do it at Toyota.

1st attempt- Star Toyota of Bayside
Me: Hi i was wondering if you can disable my DRL's while I get my car inspected?
TSR(Toyota Service Rep): What? Whats DRL's?
Me: Daytime Running Lights(At this point I know I am in for an experience)
TSR: Uhhh, why would you want to do that?? (In a condescending voice, like DRL's are God)
Me: They look ugly, I dont like them. Can you do it?
TSR: PAUSE for about 10 secs... ummmmm.... we cant do that.
Me: Yes you can, through the Toyota computer.
TSR: another pause for 10 secs... ummm... lets see... what car do you have?
Me: 05 Camry
TSR: umm... hold on let me find out..30 secs pass..... sir? sorry we dont disable daytime running lights
Me: click.

2nd attempt- Queensboro Toyota
Me: Hi are you willing to disable my daytime running lights?
TSRshe sounded like Rosie Perez) huh? say what?
Me: DAY... TIME.... RUNNING... LIGHTS... are you willing to disable them?
TSR: hold on.. (on hold for 45 secs)... where did you get your car?
Me: I bought it used from somewhere else (Why the hell would it matter?!?!?)
TSR: hold on... (she transfers me somewhere else... after 3 mins of being on hold I just hang up)

UGH why are there such idiots answering the phones?!?
Corey, I may just have to drive down to you to get my DRL's disabled! These idiots up here sure wont!

I had a similar experience when I asked to have the sensitivity of the auto headlight sensor increased during an interval maintenance. The guy gave me a wild-eyed look, said they would have to "play around" or something in the computer to figure out how to do that and it would take at least an hour.

I told him to just forget it......

Tell them to plug in their TechStream, Scroll to vehicle functions, go to DRL and turn off.

I wish it were that easy! First I have to get them to be willing to do it for me! The first guy said they dont do it.

I also wanted to try and get them to do it while I get my inspection done.. at no extra labor cost

Yeah, I had the same issue. Dealer told me they wouldn't do it because it is a "safety" feature. Oh well....

Good Luck!

LOL. queensboro toyota.... Thats where i brought my 07 camry from. Everytime i call in for a question, service department/sales person, she attempts to transfer me but she places me on hold. i just ask for the direct line/ext

I had my drl configured from queensboro toyota b4. They changed it so that my drl will turn off instantly once i open my door (with engine off).

you can go to a 3rd party auto mart (one of those small asian ones) they will do it for about 50 bucks or so. My drl's are part of my switch so I turn them off all the time.

I though fifth generation Camry have a DRL off switch or maybe that option is only for the upscale XLE model? My 2003 Camry XLE have a DRL off switch.

you are correct sir!

the 5th gen has an option to manually turn off the DRLs, since I got 5k HID's I turn them off all the time, since my HI's and Lows are both 5k.

In todays lets-sue-everyone society it is understandable a dealer would be reluctant to turn off any safety feature.

DAMMIT....

I went to my gf's house earlier this morning and we hung out until 2.. We left her place to go see a movie and what do I see hovering over my car...... FUCKIN TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT!!

I set off my panic and start yelling, "excuse me! can i help you!" even though I knew what it was. He tells me my inspection is expired. I made sure I was calm as possible and stated that I tried going on the 29th but the dealer had no more stickers left and told me to come back after the new year. The stupid bitch in the TEA car across the street squawked that I could have gone any time. I reiterated and said I needed service done on my car and that is why I needed to go to the dealer. She goes off yapping again. The guy giving the ticket said if I want, I can appeal it by getting a letter from the dealer saying they ran out of stickers. I think that was more of a "time to get this big asian guy out of my face before something bad happens to me" response.. I am going to ask the service dept for a letter stating they ran out of stickers. I know 99% that this will not get me out of the ticket(65 bucks BTW!) but it will at least give me some more time so that the city doesnt rape me of more money out of my pocket.

What made me so pissed is that they must have been just driving around looking for that shit, because that is such a random thing to get ticketed for. I am assuming its because of the color of the inspection sticker(2008's are red and 2009's are blue). It pisses me off because it is only Jan 2nd its like they are hawks. Plus, its not like my car is a 1970 POS. Its 4 years old for goodness sake!

Ugh, what they really need to be doing is giving tickets to the idiot asian drivers making 4 corner U turns in the middle of an intersection, not knowing how to yield to oncoming traffic and not signaling, and short women in gigantic SUV's talking on the phone while running red lights.

END RANT

I scheduled my inspection at the dealer for 8:30 AM tomorrow morning so I need to go to sleep so I can be on my game to get them to disable my DRL's.

They do, but they come back on when you turn the light switch to the parking light position. My 2007 is the same way, though I haven't made an attempt to get them turned off.

POS....I don't like my DRLs either. Makes it more difficult to signal IMO.
