why is a little bit of engine air filter(white part) showing? is this normal?

I replaced my engine air filter today. The replacement filter was purchased
from the local Toyota dealer.($35) It's identical to the one that I took out.

I popped the new filter in and tightend the two bolts. No matter what I did,
there was always a little bit of the filter showing. (the white part) It's only
a very thin edge that's showing... The filter housing is lined up perfectly and
the bolt hole fit....

Is this normal?

No it isn't normal. I'm trying to imagine under what circumstances you could get the rubber seal in the groove, put the top back on, and still have filter paper showing. Try reseating the thing and make sure the seal is where it should be.

It happens sometimes to my 04 LE. No matter how hard you try to fit it.

Then don't read or comment about the thread! Seriously people are sick of your sarcastic remarks in this forum. You and a few others who seem to think they own this forum because they are constantly posting USELESS messages seem to think that any questions that doesn't please YOU are not worth asking. So what if its been asked before? just ignore it! This forum would be just fine without you.

I just changed mine. I only paid $17 for mine. For the V6, the only white part that I have seen was the one shown below:

I might have to get my throttle body cleaned next since I can feel vibrations all over during idle in drive when stopped.

Yeah my car's starting to get a bit "noisier".

When i first got it, I could drive up to my friends in the parking lot while they walk and drive up really close behind them and honk. They get so scared hahah. But now, it's a bit idk not what it used to be.
Im curious, how do you clean you throttle body?

inspect the filter carefully, mine 02 has one corner that is straight and the rest are curved. If all are the same, what i would do is remove the air filter cover hold down bolts or screws and replace them with longer ones. I had to do this because those screws are just too short. (Damn those engineers.)
