2006 vs 2007 Camry

I am interested in purchasing a used Camry. I have found a 2006 Camry XLE (4 cyl) and a 2007 Camry SE (4 cyl) but I am having a hard time deciding which one to purchase.

I have heard complaints regarding a hesitation problem with the 2007 4 cyl Camrys. Has Toyota found a solution to this problem or does it still exist? I have also heard that there are some build quality issues. Are there any other problems with this car that I should be made aware of? I am rather reluctant to purchase a first model year of a car but I really like the way this car looks.

Is there any significant problems with the 2006 4 cyl. model? The 4 cyl. engine actually has the same horsepower as the 2007 but it is $3000 cheaper. I don't personally like the body style as well but it drives very nice and the interior is beautiful.

This will be my third Camry. My other two Camrys did not cause me any problems until they were 10 years old. I am looking for another Camry that will be similarly reliable.

Yes, the latest TSB that came out last May solved all the problems. It was a reflash of the car's computer. Takes about an hour for the dealer to do. This should still be covered under warranty, if the car is less than 3 years old and under 36,000 miles. Is there any way to check to see if this car has had this reflash? Are you purchasing it from the original owner? Are any service records available? If not, try calling Toyota corporate at 1-800-331-4331 with the car's vin and ask if they can tell you if it was done. The applicable TSB is TSB 0068-08 dated May 21, 2008.

Mike

I have a 07 camry I got new, mine is the v6 so I can't speak for the 4, however the rest of the car has been great. I drove the 06 when it came out and didn't buy because the stearing felt strange and was unpredictable. I'm glad I waited, the 07 is much better. Also, since the body style has not changed the 07 will hold it's value much longer then the 06.

03 LE here and I love my car.... though it's not really an LE anymore, only thing that would ID with LE would be my steering wheel.

i have an 05 SE 4cyl and its great. The hesitation you hear is the DBW (drive by wire) aka electronically controlled throttle. It takes getting used to. The TSB that Mike is referring to is only for the 07, not the 06, even though its the same transmission and engine. As for looks, I would definitely go with the 07 SE. I am not that big of a fan of the gen 6's(07-09) but with the SE kit, it definitely trumps the plain look of the XLE.

What are the miles on each? and the prices?

I just bought a used 2006 LE V6 Camry, and went out of my way to find it over a 2007 or 2008. To each his own, but I find the styling of the last generation much better.

If you're concerned with reliability and such, I'd get the gen 5.5 over the gen 6. They tend to have lower lifetime owner maintenance costs. Alternatively, the gen 6 has more power and a different and 'better' body styling.

Gen 5 FTW! The ONLY downside is no Aux In port.

I had the choice in April of '06 whether to buy an '06 Camry SE V6 or an '07. Once I saw the difference in styling it was "No Contest"

What about all the transmission problems? Consumer Reports is all over that model year.
