Gen6 Temperature Difference between face vents

It's pretty cold in PA about now. Which is why I probably noticed a few weeks back that after driving for about 15 minutes my car was still blowing cold air at me. Yet, the passenger side face vents were blowing hot air. Specifically, I'm referring to the vents over the radio (it's also the feet vents too).

I took the car to the dealer yesterday. Turns out the face vents on the driver's side is about 12 degrees colder than the passenger side. They couldn't figure out the reason... or, sadly, the fix. They spoke to some regional guy but his suggestions didn't help.

It turns out that this is not only my car. They checked another '07 Camry and it too had an obvious temp difference between the passenger and driver sides.

FYI, I have an '07 with "manual" hvac controls.

Oh, and I put quotes around manual, because the "automatic" system actually has more manual controls and the "manual" system does things that I don't like and can't control. I don't think Toyota thinks that that word means what it really means.

Any help from would be much appreciated.

Both side registers and the center register each have a damper in their ducting but the main duct that feeds them comes from the same plenum as the foot ducts that are also dampered.

The center and side defrosters also have a damper off the same plenum.

The plenum is the controlled temperature and all air from all ducts should be close to that temperature if the dampers are operating properly and ducts are sealed.

The drivers side duct is of course a longer run than the passengers side.

What is the difference on the center vents?

Pretty simple system compared to the Automatic XLE layout.

I was told that the difference between the driver's and passenger's sides is about 12 degrees (according to a laser temp. gauge at the dealership). This is between the 2 vents directly above the radio. The difference can be felt just by putting a hand in front of each vent.

The temp. seems to be the same for both of the driver's face vents (by the window and above the radio).

Thanks for the help.

Well, according to the dealer, ALL of the 2007 Camry's they tested (without auto hvac) had the same issue, and supposedly they check quite a few of 'em.

I'm paraphrasing, but they told me that the design of the venting caused the passenger side to get most of the hot air.

He agreed that it was a design flaw and that I should contact Toyota to have it fixed in future models. However, ain't nothin' gonna make mine work any better (and by "any better" I mean properly).

Signed, left-out-in-the-cold-by-Toyota Camry driver,

Temp diff between face & floor vents

The passenger side face and floor vent blow cold, and the drivers side face & floor vent don't blow any cool air. Is this a airflow or damper problem?

I don't have a service manual, but did locate the servo under the driver side. Not sure where to begin and certainly don't want to tear into the ducting. Since the cabin filter was very dirty (i've replaced it), is it possible something got past the filter into the ducts / damper possibly not allowing the damper to open/close properly for the drivers side? Looking for some guidance on troubleshooting.
