New Camry V6 .. some questions for basic mods (also, anybody else in Boston?)
Hey guys,
I have a relatively new '09 Camry V6 LE that I finally got around to adding some stuff for. I have a few questions:
1. Under the rear bumper of the SE's, there is the black rubber like protector that also contours around the exhaust... what is this called and can it be installed? (Will it look right without the SE body kit?)
2. What do you guys here in Boston use or recommend for body shops/dealerships etc? I'm looking to add some different rims/tires at some point, and I have NO idea what the different notation means... (I want something maybe 17" or 18" at most, with wider than stock tires, also slightly thicker so as to close the fender gap a little)
3. What kind of mods can improve handling to the car? I don't intend to lower the car as I'm afraid enough already of the stock clearance here on Boston's potholed roads.
4. I had my first oil change today... the dealer used 5W30 despite the manual saying to use 5W20 or even 0W20 (I read 0W20 is recommended for cold weather, like right now).... should I get some 0W20 and get someone else to change the oil?
5. I kind of want the mudguards on my car but read the installation can require the wheels to be taken off... are these things worth it (just to protect the underside of the car)
the underpanel is called a diffuser, or it's supposed to be a diffuser to smooth out the air underneath the car... to my knowledge, it is directly connected to the rear lip so it won't be possible for you to add the panel.
Could he not get an overlay, like Lammy and GTR did? just for looks?
As for suspension, Lowering springs, rear sway bar, strut tower bar...all that will stiffen it up...if you don't want to lower (i know you said no) get SE springs, it'll keep the ride height but stiffen it up some.
For rims, i'd go 18's style depends on you..18 x 8.5 would work, with an offset +35. the lug pattern for the Camry is 5 x 114.3
Mudgaurds is personal opinion as well..i don't like them in my opinion.
SE springs or lowering springs would be very helpful in handling improvements, many people have lowering springs in extreme city driving conditions and are fine. Sway bars are also very useful in improving handling, either SE sway bars or Whiteline sway bars.
I am surprised that the dealership insisted on putting in 5W-30 over the recommended 5W-20, the oil cap itself should say it's 5W-20 as well. You should learn how to change the oil yourself, fairly easy.
