USA EDIT:I painted my Camry 03 hood in my garage. PICS of installed hood

I waited a coupld of days before posting pictures just because I wanted to see if the paint job would not be ruined by the sun. For the most part it hasn't but I did get some paint bubbling at a very small spot on my hood. It's noticeable but it's not too bad. Not bad enough to warrant another repaint at least. In anycase; Here are the pictures! ENJOY!

And here are the two pictures of the paint bubbling. Perhaps next time the clear would go on easier.

I realize that this is probably very obnoxious thing to do but I really like it. One thing I'd like to make clear before I start is that this post serves as a exibition of my work and I am not "asking" you guys if this looks good.

The reason I did this is because I really like the picture and I wanted to make my Camry unique. I know that doing this, I would probably be remembered everywhere I go; "yeah, that guy with the thing on his hood" but I don't mind. This probably would stop me from driving like an ass anyway.

I also do realize that I can probably get some white decal blank papers and just cut it to shape and stick it on, but anyone could do that. I wanted to truly make this unique.

This is however my second paint job I have done on car parts so bear with me.

Total hours spent: around 20
Total cost excluding tools : $70

Here is my hood going through the paint stripping process. Aircraft stripper is probably the best invention known to the auto body industry.

This stuff is nasty. I got a bit of it on my nitrite gloves and it went straight through! Let me tell you this stuff really burns. But if you wash it off fast enough there wont be any marks or irritation.

After stripping the paint completely, I primed the hood and began drawing and masking the picture. I stenciled the picture onto my hood.

And then more masking...

Three hours later and I'm done with the masking process.

I started to spray on my factory color and this is the first coat. It is rather thin.

Three coats later this results

Last coat is applied and waited 20 minutes to start peeling off the mask.

And more peeling...

After I finished peeling off the mask, I rubbed it a bit with cleaning solution and prepped it for the clear coat. An hour and a half later, this is the outcome.

The clear is still drying, I hope to get it on my car tomorrow morning. The clear did however trap alot of dust since I did paint this in my garage. It isn't the best paint job but then again it might match the condition of my current paint job on the rest of the car

I hope you guys liked the pictures

Being an artist myself, it looks very clean. As for the decal, if its his own drawing or design, getting a decal from a printing shop may be expensive especially for that size. For what he did, he did a great job. Paint shops when doing flames or a design uses masking tape as well. Only intricate designs require decal or a cheap overlay design.

Indeed it is unique. People will think its a decal slapped on from a distance but when they get up close, they'll find out that its not.

Cant wait to see the hood on the car.

Not bad at all. I have never liked decals and always prefer paint due to their significantly cleaner look. Post a couple of outside, daytime shots once you get it back on your car.

The art work is questionable, but I certainly applaud your painting skill!

I've done a lot of painting in the past and this looks really well it came out. The decal is really cool, looks something like "Urban graffiti"

I would let the clear dry more, wet sand it a little and spray another coat to get less orange peal but it's up to you.

From spray paint cans I'm assuming? Not bad, I've painted hoods and bumpers from spray paint cans in my garage as well, just remember to have ventilation, lol.
