5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have about 28,000 on my Camry and the Proxys that came with it almost look like racing slicks. I rotated them every 5,000 miles and hoped to make it to 30,000 but since I spotted a nail in one of them I decided to just get new ones now...
I've had good experience with the MXV line of tires. 50,000 is their upper limit if you drive conservatively. Normally, I would say the Goodyear looks like a better tread pattern for wet weather (I used to live in Tampa, so I know what you're up against), but we had those Michelins on a Passat for years and they were very good. Kinda spendy though.

I'm basically looking for a tire that will give me a quiet ride, tread life of about 50,000...handling is not that important...
So if you had to pick one of those two which one would you go with...
I did consider the Primacys but ended up with Turenza Serenity's. They have a great ride, excellent wet weather capability, quiet, and have a 50K mile guarantee. Traction rating is AA., wear 440. Give them a look.
me, being a 16 year old laughed at the thread title...lol. I have the Michelin MXV4 OEM tires that came with my car, and i have no complaints about them at all. 12K and they look brand new.

In my experience with Goodyear tires, they've always proved to wear out very slowly, but they provide close to zero traction in bad conditions (i.e. rain).
Always pick Michelin over Goodyear. On that note, have you considered some other makers such as BFGoodrich or Yokohama?

1. I agree with your statement, I am not a big fan of goodyear tires, I had the eagle ga's on one of my previous cars and they wore like crap 20,000 miles at best. I bought the Michelin X one and those lasted 3 times longer.
2. I was gonna say I need rubbers too, but not for my Camry hahah
From my personal experience, I don't understand all of the hoopla over Michelins. My 18" All season Pilots that were on were wearing out by 25,000 miles and they suck in light snow (they're OK in the rain). Obviously that's not a big concern to EuroPlate in Tampa, but I switched over to Kumhos and they're just as good, if not better in my opinion, than the Michelins. Plus they're cheaper to buy.
