My experience with warranty work for my Camry
Ok so this is my first new(er) car, my first being a used rebuilt 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT I bought from a mechanic, it was his daughters car and it had about 80,000 miles at the time, great car, and great mechanic. Now I also have a used 2007 Toyota Camry SE V6 it had 60,000 kms I believe it was a rental car or something along those lines, bumper to bumper was gone but the powertrain warrenty was still good.
So after I bought it (out of town) after extensively testing it for the 3-4 flare, I did not notice it at all, of course it came within weeks of purchasing it. Brought it to a local dealership, they had troubles awknowledging it existed when it was pretty damn clear it flared, so they tried reflashing on two separate occasions, worked for about a week each and the flares came back (my humble guess is the out of town dealer that I bought it from got the car reflashed before I bought it, but no records of it, I checked). I finally manged to get them to order a new transmission, I coulden't do it right away so after a couple weeks I brought it in to get it done, I was kind of reluctant because I wasen't sure I liked the idea of them doing such a big job on my car, but they told me they could not keep the transmission much longer and they would return it. And it was under warrenty so why not?? (...)
So I brought it in, they said it would take a day or two, sure enough they call later that day telling me it will be tomorrow, tomorrow comes they tell me they broke a fuel line and will need to order a part in and will be approximately a week, sweet... They get me a rental, woo... I get a Ford Freestar, a minvan, it did not fit in my garage and had to be parked on the street, with enough debating I managed to trade up for something smaller, I got a Hyundai Accent a few days later, sure... Next they call me telling me its going to be two weeks for the part to come in for the broken fuel line, not including the work to install that and the transmission.
Oh and when I brought it in to get the transmission replaced as per the TSB, to my surprise they added a ~$150 charge to get my wheels aligned (??). I also had another incident with my ignition coils at this dealership I covered in another thread, but thats another story.
Gateway Toyota in Edmonton is the dealership I brought it to, my opinion of them is about as low as it gets, its not really about the people... they seemed nice enough but the quality of their work is just terrible.
So thats my experience getting my car serviced by a dealership (Gateway Toyota) is this about normal or what? I can only compare it to my experience with my Mitsubishi 3000GT and the mechanic I bought it from, and its like night and day. I think I've already been to the Toyota dealership about as many times I did with my old Mitsubishi 3000GT I owned for about 3-4 years, its been well under a year with the Camry so far. I was looking forward to owning a newer car (Toyota no less) thats still under warranty.
Also whats the deal with the alignment charge??
