I just got back from trying (for 2 hours) to get the oil filter off during my oil change.
?
usually i loosen up the oil filter before i drain the engine oil, but i forgot to do this and now the oil filter is stuck and will not budge. I gave up and just put new engine oil in the car and just left the old filter on.
?
Is this bad? or can i leave the old oil filter on for another 5000 miles??
?
its a I4 and the oil filter is a mobil 1

Please advise
Put some sandpaper around the filter, then put on your cap wrench (a good one, not a POS.) It will come off. There are some other ways, please search for those if this still doesn't work. For some reason, the original filter from the factory is always way too tight. You shouldn't have this problem again if you are sensible when you put the new one on. I would replace the filter ASAP, because it is what gets all the crap in the oil and if something should happen, Toyota could deny you warranty coverage if the filter was left on too long.

Considering his car is a 2008, its not new and its been oil changed before.
Yes, the sand paper trick should work but get yourself one of those hose-clamp-type wrenches that will tighten down as you try to turn. Find one without the long handle and get one that a 3/8 extension will fit into. If you put it on, it will come off. If you tried to do it cold, start the engine for a minute and let things warm up. The heat may help with some expansion and soften the seal. Snug the new one but not so much you will be taken for a gorilla. First time filters are always a pain regardless of make, but if this is not the original, it ought to come.
If the car is very low mileage, another 3k isn't going to kill it. You'd be surprised at how little crap accumulates in a new engine, but best to replace it if you can.

well actually i was asking if it was okay to go another 5000 miles on a oil filter that has 5000 miles on it already............ im sure its not good, but under the circumstance.... also if i take off the oil filter without draining the engine oil, will all the oil pour out of the hole that goes into the oil filter?
