Remove sunroof from 2006 XLE V6?

I'm looking to buy a used 2005-2006 Camry V6, either LE or XLE. I like everything about the XLE more (of course), except for the sunroof. I'm 6'4" and it lowers the interior ceiling just enough to annoy me.

I'm not advocating removing the sunroof to leave a gaping hole in the car, but I was wondering if there was a way to remove the "motorized" part of it which lowers ceiling and make it a manual push-up sunroof instead? And get the fabric refitted in the ceiling so it returns to the non-sunroof-Camry height?

Is this possible, and how much would the ballpark cost be for somebody to perform the surgery?

My other option is a LE V6 with no sunroof, but then I miss out on the larger tires, wood grain, leather seats, auto-dimming compass mirror, etc. Yah, I could get Katzkin seat upgrades, but that only fixes one of the missing XLE features. I think it would cost more to bring up an LE to XLE specs.

That sounds like it would be quite a bit of trouble and cost a lot to fabricate. Is there still not enough head room with the seat lowered all the way?

Correct.

However, I couldn't wait any longer on a woulda-coulda-shoulda, so I just bought the LE V6 and I'll have to live without the other XLE enhancements.

Still, if anyone wants to fuel my buyer's remorse, let me know if it is possible.

if i were you i would take out the power seat mount and replace it with a manual one...That would give you a few inches

Interesting... maybe that is as much fault as the sunroof.

I think you just need more "gangsta lean". That will give you unlimited head room

itll cost way too much money to remove the sunroof honestly....alot of work for little gain since the mechanism for the sunroof is built into the roof
i guess youre stuck with the LE unless you can find an XLE with no sunroof. they do exist since the sunroof was a seperate option

If you are short on head room in the Camry, for sure don't go shopping at the Ford dealer for a Fusion. I saw one of those at the auto show last year and dared to sit in it. Sunroof was open and the seat was down as far as it would go. I sandwiched myself in and then uncoiled. The sales guy had a paniced look in his face as I called over to him, with head halfway above the roofline. He wasn't amused by my request to know if the car came with goggles or if I would have to supply my own......

As far as documentation on the Internet goes, all XLE V6's come with a sunroof. I've not found one without a sunroof.
