Camry vs Volvo S40

I'm looking at new cars and was wondering how the 09 Camry compares to the Volvo S40. Just looking for a general comparison. Yes I drove both and wow are Volvo seats comfortable.
Thanks

Make a list/spreadsheet of features/prices/pluses and minuses/interior and exterior sizes/performance/gas mileage etc. and decide what is most important to you.

Asking anyone else is ...........................

I can get the features I want on both sunroof, leather, sound system, etc.

I have a 4Runner 50,000m and Tacoma 170,000m both bought new and have never had a problem, great vehicles and planned to pick up a Camry but noticed the newer Volvo S40 looks pretty good and was wondering how they compare.

Just a little worried about the interior quality of the Camry after reading some of the comments about squeaks, plastic, etc seems quality may be down a little on the US built models??? The Volvo had such a nice fit, finish and solid feel???

from what Ive heard Volvo's are not reliable. A friend of mine had one and had major oil leaks after 3 years.

As a prior Volvo owner ('96 850R which was a great car and an '01 S80 which was the biggest POS I have EVER owned) I would stick with the Toyota. Parts can be had anywhere, service can be done at almost ANY garage and you have a LOT fewer problems.

You did notice the ONE thing I miss on my old car though. The seats are probably the best I have ever had on an automobile. That makes it nice while you are waiting on the tow truck while stranded on the side of the road...

The 850R was a bad ride!

OP look up values on Volvos and Camrys 5yrs old (to see what looses less). Also, if you can, go drive 4-6 yr old Volvo. I love them but they dont age well IMO. Toyotas obviously age well.

I didnt think of parts/service I do all my own maint/repairs. (parts are dealer only items)

As far as holding value I love a Toyota.

I just checked out a couple volvo forums and wow nearly every post contained some problem/repair.

I figured I would go with another Toyota just thought I would try and get some info from previous Volvo owners.

I guess its time for me to go help boost the economy

Thanks

Yeah I have looking online for some deals and found out I could spend around $26,000 on a SE V6 w/leather or around $25,000 on a 06 IS350 w/nav and 35,000 miles.

I see a lot S40s traded for Camrys. I also do some fleet sales and leasing and I see a lot of S40s being drop off for Camrys. We are talking 08 S40s with under 30k miles on them. Now S60 is a nice drive.

Isn't the S40 just a Mazda 3?

I've heard Volvo parts are expensive and a lot of repairs are needed it seems.

Let's see... the S40 costs more, has one less cylinder (5 vs 6), uses more gas, less resale value, higher repair costs... hummm. No matter what you think of the looks it doesn't seem like a good deal to me. Oh, by the way... a 5 cylinder ? Really !?!
