5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My Toyota Camry has almost 5k miles, and the maintenance required light has been flashing whenever I start my car. I have called a Toyota dealer and they told me that I need an oil change. I live about 20+ miles from the Toyota dealer, but there is a Speedee right by my house.
I wanted to ask if Speedee would be an okay alternative to take my car to, or is it best to bring it to a Toyota dealer?
It's perfectly okay to have your oil changed at places other than the dealer. Just be sure to save your receipt to prove that you had it done. (In the event of a warranty dispute) If the shop doesn't know how to reset the maintenance light- it's in your owners manual.
I don't think you can save lot of money by doing your own oil change.
Most thing i like doing by self is save time to go stealer and wait and it's very easy. I installed this valve in all my car. no more tools. http://www.quickoildrainvalve.com/Se...ts.asp?Cat=187
You always use same oil
I've been over and under filled at those type of places in the past.
Good advice to check the level (and also that there's a new filter securely in place). But I'd recommend doing this at the dealer as well. Personally I've experienced more problems like that at dealerships than at separate oil-change places. Anyone can mess up and it only takes a minute to check.
Since you have a new car, with warranty, it's best to take it to the dealer, cause if anything goes wrong, they can't bitch about it. If it's out of warranty, then it's OK.
20 miles isn't that far, I my dinner place is about that far.
Personally I go to the dealer as well, and I did as well with my '07 Camry when it had 25K on it, although I usually found deals on the dealers website or was mailed coupons for an oil change and tire rotation anywhere from $30-$40, which is $15-$20 off.
pretty satisfying feeling, doin it yourself.forms a bond with the car when you fix her, good for the soul.a set of ramps would pay for themselves after a few times.only prob is disposing of old oil.i trust myself to add the right oil in the right quantity.
^^ true.
ive always done my own oil changes with mobil 1 synthetic and toyota filters, because i like doing it myself and its very easy to do
i say either go to the dealer or do it yourself, but if you do it yourself, take your time and be aware of what youre doing...it may be a pain the first time, but after a few changes it gets easier and easier!

They can't bitch about it either way. The only way they can require you to service your vehicle at the dealer is if they provide the service for free. Also we had big thread about warranty and oil change, you're technically not required to do oil change at 5k and even 10k. As long as the oil in your car is good, they can't deny warrant on your Engine(search for the thread if you want to read more) but it's much easier to do it at dealer to avoid the headache.
