transmission question

02 camry le 4cyl. when i start to drive my car before it's fully warmed up for some reason it won't switch into overdrive. it will sit in 3rd for a while. i have basically maxed out 3rd and it still won't switch. it switchs when the car is warmed up after about 10 min of driving. should i be concerned because this problem only started occuring recently??

also the crank pulley seems to squeal like no other whenever the car is cold. i changed th belt and still squeals. it stops squealing when the car is warmed up. should i be looking into replacing the pulley??

Don't know about your belt but pretty sure the tranny is normal. It won't shift into O/D until normal operating temp is reached. Could it be you're driving differently (heavier acceleration seems to make it more noticeable)? Could also be the t-stat isn't working as well as it used to so it takes longer to warm up.

It's not the pulley, it's the belt. Make sure all the pulley's are clean and shinny. No oil, no debris. Then get an OE belt. If there is a tensioner, you might want to change that too, especially if you have alot of miles on it. Definetly OE belt and squeaky clean pulley's tho.

+1 about it being normal. The car won't shift into OD until the car is about an eighth warm of total on the little temperature gauge. My Mom's 98 Corolla does the same exact thing. It's just to help the car warm up faster.

Make sure you are giving the car time to warm up before you take off. If the temperature is about 20 or below I would suggest up to 5 minutes just so it's nice and toasty when you step in.
