Is there a point to talking to the dealership re: Transmission Flare & Idle Vibration
Guys, what do you guys think I should do?
'09 Camry LE V6 - 5500 miles so far.
It has a noticeable transmission flare around 30 - 40 miles per hour (the needle jumps when slowing down, and causes the car to seem like it is hitting the brakes on its own).
It also has noticeable seat/steeringwheel/shifter vibration at idle. Sometimes very bad after the highway, sometimes subtle (but still there). It goes away once you start moving. It also lessens significantly in Neutral.
So do you guys think I have any chance of the the dealer telling me that this is "Perfectly Normal" for a pretty new (less than 6 months old) car?
Since you have a 2009, my guess is that you probably have the latest update for the transmission/engine computer. I still get flares even after the updates were done several months ago and the dealership now just tells me that "your car already has the latest updates, there is nothing more we can do." You might want to take the car in anyway and tell them about the problem so it is at least on your car's records/history, just in case the problem gets worse or something.

Of course you need to bring it to the dealer. And like you mentioned to me before you need to document everything. If the dealer can't find the problem I would call Toyota and at lease get a case#. More documentation. I can tell you from past experience that the problem is not going to get better. Good luck. By the way I guess you will have to put down your coffee and I-Pod and starting watching the tach.

I've been watching the Tach.. so I've definitely confirmed the problem.
Yea, I think I will bring the car in, but it's such a pain in the ass not having a car...

If you dealing with a pretty good dealer and it is under warranty they might provide with a loaner car. My problem only happened when it was cold so I did have to leave it over night. Hopefully they will work with you.

The dealer I bought my car from gives loaners if the warranty work (and warranty work only) will take a whole day or more.
I think I had flare but I could be wrong. I remember seeing my tach needle jump up and dropping drastically as well but after driving it more and more (8000 or so miles on her already), I dont have it anymore.
The flare was when you were accelerating, what you are describing sounds normal since the transmission will downshift when you are slowing down to reduce brake wear.
Don't assume because it is a 2009 that the reprograming was done. My 2009 I4 was built in 08 and it was not done. Either was the torque converter updated since it was built in May and that tsb came out afterwards. I am waiting for the new tc for 2 weeks now.
I agree with geoff here, I sounds like it is downshifting to slow down the car.
This new design 6AT transmission works differently than others. It tries to think for you, shifts when it wants, but gets great gas mileage. I would take it to the dealer for the rough idle. Mine had a small amount of rough idle.
One thing I miss about my 07 V6 LE; runs strong, and is a blast to drive.

Oh really? If what I described is normal, then that's cool. It's just a bit disturbing to find the car feel like it's braking during a downshift... I mean I don't remember that feeling on older cars.
Yeah, my 09 had that low speed rumble/vibration going on. It took two days of test driving and other testing for them to agree that there is a problem. Then they admitted to a TSB covering that. New torque converter ordered but still not here. Oh well, at least I get a loaner.
