07+ V6 ECU upgrades

So i was shooting the crap with a co-worker at my work chit chatting about cars this past week, and we where talking about my old juiced up Thunderbird I had. While talking about the mods of the car, the subject of ECU tuning and piggyback chips came up. He asked me if his 07 Camry V6 had any sort of ecu upgrades out there for the car. I told him i wasn't sure but from my experience with the corolla Toyota kept there stuff under lock and keep and i wouldn't hold my breathe as to somebody coming out with a piggyback chip or an ecu with different fuel mapping for more power. Was i correct in this statement or is someone out there selling anything similar to what I am talking about?

i also found this threw google

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sh...ota/camry.html

i dont vest much confidence in jet or the ability of the products to actually work, but just figured id ask anyways

camrys were not designed for performance. . you are better off putting your money on "bling, bling" and make it look good. "I'd rather be homeless than chromeless"

That's completely useless.

If our Camry's ECU is anywhat similar to the IS350's ECU, it'd be just as impossible. They run in a complete closed loop operation, so any tune from a piggyback would be useless. Some can allow you to tune the O2 sensors to trick the A/F, but things like SAFC do exist for that. But then again, you can very easily foul your plugs running too rich or blow cylinder rings running too lean.

Even SAFC tunes wont last long, the factory ECU will tune them back via closed loop.

COBB tuning does have something out for our 2GR engines, but they isn't exactly for sale or mass production as of now, they used it as an Accessport I believe.

And heck, Camry's aren't necessarily designed for performance, but why can't they be. There's a Gen3 here with two GT28R turbos, bam, performance on a Camry.

I never bothered to test any of these "modules" but I have great reluctance to believe they change anything measurable....(even though any closed loop control circuit can be altered...example: just tap into the feedback from any sensor and voila, nothing like "real closed loop")

its not my car, i roll in a corolla, its a co workers, he asked me about it, i guess i was right in my assumption

its aggravating how Toyota keeps the potential of modification under lock and key with the way everything is setup

and the new Camry's, ya there not meant for performance, but they certainly perform verryy well, its the beginning of a new era for the car
