Power Steering Leakage in 2007 Camry LE
My 2007 Camry LE has about 17K mileage and is a little over an year old and ever since I bought it I've had to keep refilling the power steering fluid as it would starting getting low. At first I didn't think about it much but after having to refill it four times within the year I have owned it, I got suspicious. After investigating I noticed at the very bottom of the car there was some build up of some dirt and stuff and realized that its highly possible the power steering was leaking. I was sure it was leaking when I had to fill it up for a 5th time.
I took it to the dealership and they said they found some seepage on the rack and pinion. Now I don't trust the dealers or mechanics so much but when I tried to find the leak I couldn't find anything. They told me if they install a new rack and pinion system then I will not have the leakage. Since it was covered in the warranty after much hesitation I decided to go ahead and try it. I've got it back now and it seems like it is worse.
Now I'm trying to figure it out myself and I realized when I was refilling the power steering fluid I used regular Power Steering Fluid and the cap on the container says to use Type II or III Dextron. I do not think this could be the reason because it was leaking before I even added regular power steering fluid. Also before I put regular power steering fluid I asked a few people and they said its okay to use it.
Has anyone else had this problem before or can provide me with some advice?
