5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I bought an 07 Camry XLE a couple weeks ago and the front door speakers have some pretty severe distortion. I brought it to the dealer today and they were like,, ( sounds fine to me. ) Is it the speakers or is it the door rattling. What ever it is, is driving me crazy. I traded in an 04 Camry XLE with JBL and the stereo sounded 3 times as good with no rattling or distortion. Is the dealer just trying to save money by saying they cant hear it, or is it just normal for them to sound this way. This is the 6 CD JBL with 440 watts and 8 speakers and bluetooth. Please help and thanks in advance.
I have the 07 Camry XLE with that system and I don't hear any distortion from the speakers. Is the car still under warranty? If so, take it back to the dealer and ask to hear another 07, 08 or 09 XLE's sound system, as a comparison to your system. They should have another new or used generation 6 XLE on the lot with the same audio system.
I think you might be confusing rattling with distortion. My 08 rattles like hell with the volume turned up to medium volume. But then again, what doesn't rattle in my 08? The doors, side pillars, dash, rear shelf, various interior trim pieces, etc.

I feel lucky. Only my left side speaker panel area rattles now (and also the dash/window when it's really really REALLY cold). My gear shift also rattles on occasion (which the dealer said is impossible to fix). I'm too lazy to fix my left side rattle since I always have the music on.
Yeah when I go back there on tuesday I will have them bring another XLE and go from car to car and see if there is a difference. They are deaf to it unless it was their own car and then it would be fixed. If it ends up being just rattling, is there anything that can be done to the door panel itself to reduce the noise. maybe a spray in sound deadening foam??? Thanks for the replies, hopefully we can solve this problem soon.
Went back to the dealer on tuesday and they said they still couldn't hear anything wrong. They wouldn't even offer to take the door panel off to check if things are tight. How can you make a dealer do something, this one seems like they dont care at all.

Did you suggest trying another car? If yes and they refused, I think it's time to involve Toyota corporate. Give them a call at 1-800-331-4331 and speak to customer service about the problem.

When you are there if the people you are talking with wont help ask for a manager and insist that you want the door panel removed etc.
Its kind of a touchy situation since I do vendor work for them so I dont want to get too mad about the situation. I save them thousands of dollars a year so you would think that they could make me happy. If they dont figure it out soon I will have to go above them.
