Gen6 Aftermarket fog light wiring help.

So I bought aftermarket fogs on eBay and wired them up the lazy way. I just cut off the relay, the switch, and fuse and was just left with the red and black wires. I just connected the black wire to ground and the red wire to the parking light power source.

But.. I do not like the light output of my fog lights. I think it's because I didnt use the relay maybe? I read on wikipedia that the relay controls an output circuit of higher power than the input circuit, meaning that it amplifies the electrical output. So I'm assuming this is the reason why my output is bad..

So my question is..... does anyone have a picture of the relay so I can re-wire them back to normal?? I noticed there were 4 slots for 4 wires coming out of the relay: black, yellow, red, white.

"Amplify the electrical output" ???!!!

Take your car to someone who understands electrical systems. You are setting yourself up for a fire hazzard. That useless relay and fuse were there for a reason.....

lol it seems okay to run the wires like this because it's only using the parking light power source. I think using the relay would give me more power, then it might become a fire hazard!

In a nutshell,

Run wiring from a battery tap to your fuse, the fuse to the power side of the relay, the output side of the relay to the lights. To turn on with your parking lights, wire from them to the trigger side of the relay or use the switch to trigger the relay.

Make sure the wire you use is rated for more amps than your fuse (the fuse should be the weakest link in your circuit). If you splice any wires, solder them and cover with heat shrink tubing.

Find someone that is willing to help or that you can pay and watch them work. Learning to repair your car is a WORKING experience, not a Wikipedia READING experience.....

lol word thanks. after looking at some pictures and online write-ups, I think it should be cake. I found some more pictures of that relay and looks like it's set up like this:

TOP LEFT = red wire TOP RIGHT = yellow wire
BOTTOM LEFT = white wire BOTTOM RIGHT = black wire

This is the POV from where the wires insert, not where the relay plug inserts.

shouldnt have cut off the relay, they are there for a reason. mine is wired into the pink / silver wire under the steering wheel. it is wired into the stalk so that when my lights come on, my fogs do too.

So I re-wired it today morning and drove around 2 hours today with them on without problems.

I tried driving with only the fogs on and they barely lit up the road... I tried aiming the beam lower but still, my old TYC fogs connected without a relay had 10x better light output with the same bulbs. Must be the crappy lens? I dont know, I might just have to get some HID fogs.

I wish they made projector fog lens for the 6th gen.
