totally got rear ended today and i have a question
I got rear ended on the 60 going toward riverside. The traffic on the 60 happens really out of no where, one minute you are in traffic then out of no where traffic is gone, its freaking weird sometimes. While i was in traffic, the car in front started to slow down so i slowed down with him and when i made a stop a nissan frontier hit me from the rear then pushed my car forward which hit the jeep in front of me. My car looks totally bad ( i have pictures on my phone but can't upload them right now because i am at school ), but luckily nothing but the cars were hurt in the accident.
But the weird thing is that when i got hit, the airbags did not deploy. I would think that a since i got hit from a back then hit a car in front of me the air bags would at least deploy. Anyone know exactly how are you need to be hit in order for those bags to deploy?
I will post pictures when i get home from school.
And yes if you are wondering, i did wanna go to school straight from the accident =D
it probably was not hard enough to deploy the air bags. I dont know the force numbers for them to deploy, but I would imagine enough force to cause you some bodily harm.
in my other car i was hit from behind (i was at a stop) and the guy was on his phone and was doing 30kmh...and pushed me into a truck with a trailer hitch.."V"ed the front end and my air bags never went off.. was weird..
As long as you're ok, and the others involved are, that's all that matters..
For the front airbags the spec for deployment is within about 15 degrees of center, over 15mph i believe. Getting hit from the rear, the force will make your head move backwards, so the airbag in front of you would be pointless.

you didnt get hit hard enough for the bags to deploy. anyway, hope you get your car fixed.

yeah i know. Honestly i didn't care much that the car got damaged because its nothing that insurance wont cover, but i was really just concerned about the driver who hit me because his car was totally f'ed. I mean it looked like the front of his car got socked by the incredible hulk

you sure it was a car? sounds like you wanna get "rear ended" =D.. anyways my parents taking my car to the shop tommorow to get everything fixed. There was a huge scratch on my bumper that i got from backing up into a boat rack that is hopefully gonna get fixed for me =D
Please... no crash stories without photos... we love to see crashes
sure on t.v but when you are in one its a totally different story. I mean when you are in one, you hear everything just before and when you get hit; the sound of brakes being slammed, the sound of metal scratching metal and then hearing your car make a big "thump" sound. Its horrifying being in a car accident even if its a small one. But ill get the pictures up when i get out of school
Rear enders suck arse. Your car will never be the same again.
My old Corolla was rear ended twice in it's life, the second time when I owned it was a really severe hit. It was properly repaired but nothing lined up correctly and the driver's seat was destroyed. The Camry was very minor, just the bar but of course the original paint had faded considerably compared to the new paint on the bar - pretty obvious. The driver's seat also has a little bit more play than it originally did too.
